morfeu Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 I'm thrilled to have discovered this forum, there is some really good tips. I will be sure to use the links to give a little back.I would apreciatte if someone could help me to identify this hotel:3.5* Empire States Building dates: 06/28-07/02 - $149features: Boutique, Restaurant, High-speed internet.edit: forgot to add that it has a 90% recommendation rateFuthermore, do anyone know of any other good deal in Midtown, Times Square, Empire States or Central Park South on those dates? I was looking to spend about $150, but could go up to $170 if it's a really nice location. I'm mostly interested in getting a fairly cheap 3* and up on a good location.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! The Marcel at Gramercy has previously been seen with this amenity set but at the 3* level... my guess is that it has been upgraded since it was last reported to the board. Hard to be too confident with a limited number of amenities, but whatever property this does turn out to be seem to be pretty well reviewed by previous HOTWIRE guests. You might be able to do a little better on PRICELINE, but then you'll have less control over the hotel you may receive and there are also some zones which you may want to exclude from your bidding (ie- small rooms, moderate walk from subway, etc)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how you'd like to proceed (or how the purchase goes) and we'll take it from there. morfeu Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 The 3.5* deal at $149 is gone now.I tried some bids on priceline yesterday following the forum guide and bidding up to 170 on 4* at CPS and ESB without sucess. What strategy would you recommend to get a cheap hotel, 3* and up, bettween 3rd and 9th avenues and 34th street and central park?
thereuare Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 What strategy would you recommend to get a cheap hotel, 3* and up, bettween 3rd and 9th avenues and 34th street and central park? You can't choose the boundaries likes this, you can only choose from among PRICELINE's pre-defined zones and you can receive a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone you select. If you use the search box on the top right corner of this page and enter "NYC" and the dates of your trip, on the next page you'll see the PRICELINE zone boundaries... of these, which zone(s) are you willing to accept? (NOTE that some zones go further east then you've indicated and others go further west)What is your maximum bid for at the 3* level? It also appears that you haven't tried bidding 3.5* yet... did you want to try that first up to your limit before trying for a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. morfeu Posted June 10, 2011 Author Report Posted June 10, 2011 I think I would have the least expensive 3* or better on MTW, CPS, TS and MTE, preferably, but I would be willing to try ESB or MSG.I would could go up to $150 for a 3*.

morfeu Posted June 11, 2011 Author Report Posted June 11, 2011 I got the Thirty Thirty Hotel for $130 a night, for a total of $635.84 with taxes and fees.Do you know if this was a good deal? This hotel is relatively well rated on trip advisor (72% approval), but it stand at only #303 of 435 hotels in new york.Anyway, it was cheaper than the best deal on HOTWIRE (the $149 deal that I pointed out at the beggining of the thread went back online). Thanks for your help.P.S.: For those with foreign credit cards, my Brazilian Amex apparently went through without any problems!
thereuare Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Congratulations on your success! The Thirty Thirty is a 'basic' hotel... nothing fancy but it's clean and serves it's purpose. I don't think there is a restaurant or bar or concierge on the property (ie- a basic property), but plenty of bars/restaurants in the immediate area.If you like burgers one of the best in the city (imo) is a short walk from this property, Jackson Hole Wyoming on Third Ave at 35th St... the burgers are HUGE and makes for an inexpensive dinner (or a very filling lunch).Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
