gmetz Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Hey folks,Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking for a hotel in DT south Toronto for 1 night only (June 11th). I'm planning on catching a couple Red Sox games on the 11th and 12th and would need a hotel for a night. I tried some bids yesterday (with rezoning) using the above links on PL, but I couldn't get anything accepted for less then $100 on a 4-star. Anyone have a recommendation? I'd like to stay in the area of the Rogers Centre and be able to walk to the game on Sunday. Perhaps I'd be better off staying away from DT and commuting via subway/rail? Would I be better off waiting until Friday to book it? Thank you, great board here, glad I found it.Glen
thereuare Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! My guess is that a 4* may be out of your budget at the moment, but a 3.5* might be possible... or have you considered trying for a 4* in the Toronto North zone? (would likely still give you access to transportation to Rogers Centre, and at worst would only be about a mile from the edge of the Toronto South zone. I'm not sure if it will help, but if you prefer a 4* in this zone vs. a 3.5* in the South zone it's something to consider. As far as waiting, it's a calculated risk, but one which i don't necessarily recommend unless you have a good, and confirmed, back-up plan. Obviously you'd be looking for a hotel to lower their rates at the last minute, but what if it doesn't happen...then you're left scrambling for a room with very few options (and you have to bid a bit 'generously' since if you fail you're then left with even more expensive options). As well, why some rate drops can occur, by this time a hotel already has a very good idea of their occupancy for this weekend, and if they're aggressive in trying to attract more business may have already adjust rates accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. gmetz Posted June 8, 2011 Author Report Posted June 8, 2011 Thank you for your response. I'm not overly concerned with star rating to be honest. Just looking for someplace inexpensive for a night. I know parking can be a PITA up there as well, it would be nice to find something with parking included. But I also understand you can't shop amenities when you use PL or Hotwire. Oh well, back to the grind trying to find something.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 I'm not overly concerned with star rating to be honest.I suspect there was some rational for choosing 4* when you bid above. If star rating is now not important, what is the minimum star rating that you're willing to accept and what would be your maximum bid at that star level... we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow. (also let us know if you want to stick with the Downtown South zone or if the Downtown North zone is also acceptable)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. gmetz Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 Thanks for your help. I tried some rezoning on a 3.5-star, and got stuck in Mississagua (in a hotel listed as 3 in the listings on here). Oh well, $hit happens. Nice thing is I'm only 2 minutes form a train/bus station so I can get down there quickly. I'll post the success so the list of hotels can be updated.
gmetz Posted June 9, 2011 Author Report Posted June 9, 2011 Booked the Delta Meadowvale in Mississagua on PL yesterday at $95. Was trying to re-zone a 3.5 in Downtown South and got this. Please update the hotel lists with this info.
thereuare Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Sorry to see you received a hotel in which you didn't intend, but hotel upgrades/downgrades/new additions are why it's so important to not use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones, and only use the method discussed in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. Feel free to read the previous link and feel free to ask any questions that you may have.Fortunately this is just for one nite and hopefully you can still make it work well for your needs.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us update the Priceline Hotel List with the new star rating for this property. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
