Glamourpuss Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 This is my first time using Priceline and I will be booking quite a few hotels for a trip in September-October.The first stop is NY for 2 nights 9/14-9/16/11 and I would be happy to stay midtown, midtown east, empire state building, central park southJust me and my daughter travelling (from Australia) and we can share a bedI had a go bidding on Priceline this evening but failed getting a 4* under $175 or a 3.5* at $150
thereuare Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!I would be happy to stay midtown ____, midtown east, empire state building, central park south...For this first zone, did you mean midtown West??Is there a reason your not including Times Square as well... are you looking to avoid this zone? Also note that at the 4* level all the zones above are fine, but at the 3.5* the CPS zone contains the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms, would this be acceptable? Also, at the 3.5* in the MTE zone there are hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable?Let us know the information above, as well as your maximum bid at each star level, and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Glamourpuss Posted June 8, 2011 Author Report Posted June 8, 2011 Thanks - Midtown East and West and Times Square are all OK and at this stage I would stick with the 4*As to the maximum bid amount, I would hope that it would be less than $240 per night including taxes
thereuare Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 I would be happy to stay midtown, midtown east, empire state building, central park southThanks - Midtown East and West and Times Square are all OK...Is ESB and CPS still acceptable or are did you no longer want to include these in your bidding? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Glamourpuss Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 ThanksI went with the suggested strategy and was not successful for 4* at $200 per night (MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, ESB)I can see that there has been one win around those dates at $190-ish so I might try again - when should I try again?Otherwise I will drop my expectations to a 3.5*
thereuare Posted June 13, 2011 Report Posted June 13, 2011 You're eligible to try again 24 hours from your last rejected bid... but given your stay is about 3 months away, i wouldn't necessarily expect any change in inventory. When you bid again is dependent upon how quickly you want to have this stay take care of (and lower your bid to 3.5* if necessary) but if you're not in any rush, i'd try again in a week. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Glamourpuss Posted August 23, 2011 Author Report Posted August 23, 2011 Sorry - I should have posted my result - I got this hotel for 2 nights 14th and 15th September at Sheraton Brooklyn for $190 per nightI made the bid on July 6th using your links. I did use what I thought was a good bidding strategy and added Brooklyn thinking that there were no 4* in that area - and finished up winning this oneIt is cool as we are spending the other week of the trip in Manhattan so this will be a good alternative - part of the adventureDo you post this to the calendar of wins?
AaronJB Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Glad to hear that this property will still work out okay for your travel plans. If one is able to select 4* in the zone during the bidding process, then there are 4* possibilities within the zone. We will post to the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Thanks. :)Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
