lukev Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Following are the hotels I am trying to decide between for my trip to Chicago later this week:4* Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville Area / $116/Night- Bed Choice- Smoke Free Rooms- Fitness Center- Restaurant(s)- Business Center- High Speed Internet Access4* North Michigan Avenue - Water Tower - Gold Coast Area / $122/Night- Smoke Free Rooms- Fitness Center- Restaurant(s)- Business Center- High Speed Internet Access4.5* Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville Area / $208/Night- Smoke Free Rooms- Fitness Center- Restaurant(s)- Business Center- High Speed Internet AccessA colleague of mine recommended the River North area, but I'm not sure I have that option selected b/c there is not a "River North" specifically. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
AaronJB Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 Unfortunately, there is no way to select the "River North" area, although PRICELINE used to have that as a separate area a few years ago. The River North area is a very nice area and well worth checking out from a dining and nightlife perspective, even if you're not staying right in it.In terms of the above properties:1. 4* MM: I'm seeing a different listing when searching.2. 4.5* Mag Mile/Streeterville: Possibly Conrad or Intercontinental, although quite likely the latter.3. 4* NMA - the Affinia, Allerton and Westin Michigan Ave. have been seen with this amenity set.Rather than the potential Intercontinental for $208, around the same price neighborhood I'd rather suggest the Amalfi for $199 regular rate via Expedia, and coupon code BRIGHT11 takes $10 off per night - $189. That boutique property is right in the River North area and offers free breakfast and an evening reception. Otherwise, if you are not going to be in the room much, one of the cheaper 4* HOTWIRE listings would be worth considering.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, Expedia or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lukev Posted June 6, 2011 Author Report Posted June 6, 2011 Thanks for the quick response. I just found out one of our clients has a deal w/ W and Sax for $189/night. Would you recommend either of these over Amalfi?
AaronJB Posted June 6, 2011 Report Posted June 6, 2011 I'd suggest the Amalfi for $189. Quite well-reviewed, great location in the River North area (the Sax is a block or so South, so no location advantage to that property) and the free breakfast and the evening reception are nice added value. The W is a fine property, although it - like a number of other W locations - is understandably not going to be everyone's cup of tea. Additionally, I like the River North area and its wide variety of restaurants - everything from fine dining to a variety of more casual options, including unique spots such as the new Rick Bayless restaurant Xoco (http://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/xoco.html), which is a couple of blocks North of the Amalfi.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lukev Posted June 7, 2011 Author Report Posted June 7, 2011 Given your apparent familiarity with the Chicago area, I have to go with your recommendation of The Amalfi. Before I book, I wanted to ask if there was any way I could give the site credit for the referral since this is not being booked via Hotwire or Priceline? Please let me know relatively quickly as I need to book the hotel and thanks again for all the help. This board is incredibly helpful!
