goose1 Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 I'm looking for a 3.5+ star hotel for these dates and when I look on Hotwire they show midtown central for $154. funny thing is I've been bidding on priceline and went all the way up to $165 with no luck. I really would like to spend right around $150 or less and am looking for a location in the middle of the city...pretty much anywhere besides soho and the upper west and east sides. times square would be ideal but I think I'd have to spend more for that. any suggestions??thanks!
AaronJB Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Which zones did you bid for so far? Additionally, what are the amenities showing with the 3.5*?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
goose1 Posted May 31, 2011 Author Report Posted May 31, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Which zones did you bid for so far? Additionally, what are the amenities showing with the 3.5*?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.on priceline i've submitted bids which have included Midtown West, Midtown East, Times Square - Theatre District, Empire State Building Area, Chelsea Area, Hell's Kitchen, Madison Square Garden. the amenities shown for Hotwire are fitness room, Internet, business, and restaurant. thanks for the help!
AaronJB Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 My guess for the 3.5* would be the Hudson, which falls under Central Park South on PRICELINE.In the areas you bid, unfortunately I think - at this time - a winning 3.5* bid will require a moderately higher bid. In terms of the 3.5* level and MTE, I will note that a couple of the 3.5*'s in MTE are rather far East (Hilton Manhattan East, Millennium UN). Would the Hudson be of any interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
goose1 Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 after doing some research online and looking the Hudson up on yelp, I don't think it really works for us. I know most rooms in NYC are small but the vibe I'm getting from reading reviews is that the rooms are very small. I'd rarther spend a little more and be comfortable. what do you think I would have to spend to try and stay in the areas I've already tried bidding on? I know my stay is around 6 months away; do you think I shouldwait? I figured because it's thanksgiving week it's probably better if I book early...as for the MTE, yeah, I'd rather not go that far east sk I guess we can take that area out.thanks!
thereuare Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Historically the days leading up to Thanksgiving are quite expensive and the weekend after is relatively (for NYC) less expensive. Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?I'll also add that for your complete stay HOTWIRE has a highly rated (90% recommended, mostly 4.0 and 4.5 on the criteria HOTWIRE asks about in their review survey, and 3.5/5.0 from TA) 3* hotel in the Chelsea-MSG zone... would this of any interest? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts on the options above and we'll take it from there. goose1 Posted June 1, 2011 Author Report Posted June 1, 2011 preferably i would not like to have to spit my bid, but if you think it's going to save me a substantial amount of money then i don't mind doing that. also, i am open to a 3* in the Chelsea and MSG zones. actually i'm open to a 3* in any of the really central areas. my wife and I stayed down in Soho last trip, so this time we are looking to stay closer to the TS area. thanks!
thereuare Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 preferably i would not like to have to spit my bid, but if you think it's going to save me a substantial amount of money then i don't mind doing that.It comes down to price vs. convenience and what you consider 'substantial' to be.As a rough guage:Full Stay:3* $155/niteFirst 3 nites:3* $129/nite3.5* $179/niteLast 3 nites:4* $1753* $158Based upon the above is changing hotels worth the savings or ability to get a higher rated hotel VS. lowering your star rating to 3* and paying about the amount you've already been turned away with at the 3.5* level?Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
