Ketzstar
Going on a cruise in december, 2011 that leaves from Cape liberty. Want to book a 4 star hotel using Hotwire or Priceline. Have never used either. Which site is better and what are the 4 hotels in jersey City available through bidding on Hotwire or Priceline. Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you looked at the pinned threads at the top of the Priceline and Hotwire New Jersey Hotel Lists you'll see the hotel lists for both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE.As far as which is 'better' depends upon your needs... the short is that PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper then HOTWIRE, whereas HOTWIRE allows you to know the amenities offered by the hotel beforehand as well as take a guess as to the property offered. For a more detailed discussion/explanation see this I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire thread. What are the actual dates of your stay as rates will likely differ greatly in the beginning of the month vs. the end of the month. What is your expected budget per nite? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare
Would like to be in either area around Rockefeller Centre/Midtown East or East of Empire State Building or Central park South.Which zones, by PRICELINE name, are you willing to accept?Have a budget with taxes & fees in of a max of 190 to 200/night. Would like to keep to around $180 max.A $180 maximum bid will actually put you close to $210/nite all-in.. what is your maximum bid amount.Want a clear, bed bug free, modern hotel preferabley 4 star.Ideally all hotels should be bug free, but you can't choose a modern vs. historic vs. boutique vs. quaint type of property... you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating that you choose... if this is not acceptable, HOTWIRE may be a better (yet slightly more expensive option) as you can at least take a guess before your purchase as to the property you may receive.Let us know the information above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. This is our anniversary trip so want something that is well located but also nice to stay in. Link to comment
thereuare
ESB, MID EAST, MID WEST, CENTRAL PARK SOUTH, SOHO and if necessary TIMES SQUARE.Should we include Times Square in an an initial strategy or not? Also, note that although you listed "Soho" the Downtown zone is much larger then just the Soho area, i assume you're ok with a hotel anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone?Open to all types so long as it has been renovated or refurbished in the last 10 years.Note my previous comments... you can't put 'qualifiers' on your stay such as this... you need to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you select. If your stay requires more specifics then this, then HOTWIRE is another option... but it will cost you a little more, and while you're able to get a little more control over the type of hotel you'll receive (by taking a guess as to the ID, reading the reviews, TA info provided, etc), still no guarantees you'll receive exactly what you're looking for.Let us know the information above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Ketzstar
Hi... thanks for all your help. But after a week of frustrating bidding, I narrowed the hotel down to one that had great reviews and went directly to the hotel. Got a great price for each of the 3 nights (152 per night). So booked directly with the hotel. Very happy and relieved. Xmas in New York is super expensive and very hard to find a good hotel at a reasonable price. Very glad with what we got. A great reviewed hotel.taying at The Distrikt hotel which also provides direct access to subway and airport express shuttle. Great location. Link to comment
thereuare
Glad you found something which you're happy with and works well for your budget. To clarify... had you bid up to $170 on PRICELINE?These dates really aren't that expensive in NYC... historically the beginning of the December is very expensive, then the few days before Xmas are inexpensive and continue to be up until a few days before New Years Eve (depending upon what day of the week NYE falls on)Also, to avoid confusion for others, i don't think the Distrikt hotel provides a free airport shuttle... it's likely thru a 3rd party who provides shared van service from local hotels to the airports. Assuming the shuttle is not free, given this hotel's location, i'd sooner go to the Port Authority and take one of the express buses to the airport needed, as this will save the hassle (and time) of stopping at all the other hotels picking up other passengers. Ketzstar
We are using the port authority shuttle. Cheaper and right across the street.Cheers & best! Link to comment
