kjr Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 Anyone know what is going on in Boston? Hotels seem sky high for June 5-9? Monday to Thursday. Possible graduations or for the reasons below....Currently have the Lenox CAA rate at $374 a night now. Dates will be fixed as of tomorrow if Boston wins game 7 as I plan to go down for the Stanely cup games. Perhaps this is the cause?I wonder if I am missing something. Even some very very poor hotels are north of 250 on some third party booking sites.BIG Sigh....may have to take pain on this one but perhaps I can figure something out.As soon as the team is decided I will be doing priceline NYO price using the links for either tampa or boston but perhaps you guys can give me some thoughts now or at least before the game ends tomorrow and things go crazy. have the shereton in Tampa tentatively booked at 135 so as a canucks fan, i am certainly chearing for Tampa for the wallet.
thereuare Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 For its size Boston does not have a lot of hotel rooms and even moderate events can quickly cause a spike in hotel prices. If there are graduations in town that could certainly cause the rate increase, as could a Stanley Cup game... both would certainly have a more dramatic effect.Which zone(s) are you willing to accept and what is your maximum bid and minimum star rating? Are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel or is your goal the least expensive hotel at the minimum star level you choose? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kjr Posted May 27, 2011 Author Report Posted May 27, 2011 so i ditched the 374 and night and now have the Courtyard Boston Brookline for 174 a night. i would gladly stay at a nice clean place not in a dodgy area close to the subway. i wanted to book this to have it since depending on who wins tonight, things could get crazy. would be driving from Toronto so close to subway and close to the turnpike or major road.
Romelle Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 I think at those rates, I'd be getting a map of the Boston Metro system and looking at outlying areas to see where else might work. Including those other Boston areas that show up under the PL map on the right hand side. I clicked on "Boston Metro" and three areas showed up - Braintree-Quincy Needham-DedhamStoughton-Rockland The center of Braintree-Quincy looks to be about 10 miles from the center of Boston. There were several other areas after the Boston Metro one too. I suspect the areas with "Metro" in their name are served by the Metro, but you will need to verify that. Seems logical, but that is usually where I get myself in trouble, since lots of things just aren't logical.Besides, you are pretty much out of time and this would give you more possible bids.Romelle
kjr Posted May 27, 2011 Author Report Posted May 27, 2011 that is what i am doing now. Quincy may work but a pain to leave out of to drive back home on the 9th. better to be west of the city. was looking in newton.

kjr Posted May 28, 2011 Author Report Posted May 28, 2011 so game plan is this. drive down from Toronto on Sunday. i have my tix for game 3. not for game 4 yet.also, if i go with my buddy, may do priceline but still get the sense that prices are high for a 4* in a decent area (waterfront, downtown or copley).but if my buddy can not go, would drive down with inlaws. that kind of makes using priceline hard so my back up is the courtyard brookline at 179. probably will have to pay more for extra persons.what do you think it would take to get a 4* downtown given the rates showing on the regular priceline? i am sure they only got worse in the last 12 hours.
thereuare Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 I'm seeing hotel direct rates at 4* hotels in the $350+ area (some over $400) and when prices get this high it's too difficult to say what it might take since hotels may have few rooms left and not offer any discounted inventory to the opaque suppliers... best you can do is choose your budget based upon your back-up rate and hope that some property will accept your bid. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kjr Posted May 30, 2011 Author Report Posted May 30, 2011 OK, so I now know why things are so expensive. Looks like it is pride week in Boston starting June 3. Should make for an electric city with pride and the stanley cup finals among other things.i tried bidding up to 140 in all 4* areas with no luck. i did not bid higher, since right now my back up is guaranteed wtih 2 queen beds. therefore, doing PL would require 2 rooms since we could get stuck with 1 king...and there are 4 of us and so 280 was even north of my budget.oh well, will keep it and see if there is any movement but i suspect it will be pretty hard to get any better deal. the current deal i have is a boston college rate...otherwise, it would have been 299 for the courtyard brookline.
thereuare Posted May 31, 2011 Report Posted May 31, 2011 At least you've learned why rates are so high as that should remove a little bit of the frustration.Keep us updated and let us know of any change in plans or if we can be of further help along the way. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck.
