jashields Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Hello,Hoping you could assist please. I am on a Mac using Safari. I have bid for a 3.5* hotel near the White House (Washington, DC). My bids have been rejected and on the rejection screen, Priceline is showing that I had bid on 3.5 AND 4* (had not bid on 4*). Is this common place? Should I start at 4* and work down?I had successfully bid $100 on a 3.5* hotel (was the Doubletree) but inadvertently booked the wrong days. Priceline is charging me a $25 cancellation fee if I rebid. I am happy to do that but the prices seem so much more. Is this common practice?Any help you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks, Jess
thereuare Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Please start by reading your messages. It's not that PRICELINE 'rounds up' your star ratings, but rather that the star rating you select is the minimum that you are willing to accept... PRICELINE will always attempt to upgrade you to a higher rated hotel if one is available. So when you select 3.5* it's also checking every star rating above that, which is why they're selected when you're given the opportunity to re-bid (since PRICELINE has already checked those star ratings too on the previous bid)If you let us know the date(s) of your stay, desired star rating, maximum bid and desired zone(s) we'll have a look and suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- please post your 'wrong' win to the board as a NEW TOPIC as it may help somebody with their own bidding if their dates are the same/similar to the incorrect dates you had bid for. jashields Posted May 26, 2011 Author Report Posted May 26, 2011 Thank you so much. I appreciate your response.I am looking for a 3.5* up in Washington, DC (White House) area from June 23-26th. I am hoping to pay no more than $120 per nightAny strategy suggestions are greatly appreciated!
thereuare Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Please start by reading your messages.2xHOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the White House zone for $90/nite, which i'm guessing to be the Hilton Capital Hill. However, this property is 3.5* rated on PRICELINE and in PRICELINE's Convention Center-Capitol Hill zone. If you look at the PRICELINE zones for this region, would the Conventional Center zone be acceptable as well? Please let us know and we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jashields Posted May 27, 2011 Author Report Posted May 27, 2011 I will look at the Capitol Hill region but had preferred the White House area.I am stuck with Priceline as I have a credit to use. I tried again but the prices are going up and my $112 for a 3.5* was rejected. I will have to wait until tomorrow. Thanks, Jess
