AJSkyz Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Hiii!So I'm trying to book a room through priceline and I got rejected.I'm looking for a room for 2 adults and 1 child (5yrs old) from 6/9 - 6/13. I had tried pricelining a 4 star room in the times square, madison square, empire state building areas for $170.00. Please advise me as to what to do or how to re-do it. I'm new to Priceline! Thank you.
thereuare Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.Note that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request (this is especially relevant in NYC where rooms are often small, many can't accommodate a rollaway, and there is a high percentage of rooms with only one bed... at some hotels rooms with two beds is considered an upgrade) Is this a risk you're willing to accept? If not, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc)Let us know your thoughts if you'd like to continue to PRICELINE or prefer to go the HOTWIRE route... we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AJSkyz Posted May 26, 2011 Author Report Posted May 26, 2011 Hi,So I used the PRICELINE link and tried re-bidding today.I picked a 4 star hotel from 6/9 - 6/13 in the areas of Time Square, Madison Square, Empire Statethen re-bid adding Chelsea then and Midtown West I was bidding $170 - $176.Now I try to re-bid again but it says that I have to change something, but I don't know what else to change since my dates are set and I want the best hotel I can get since I am traveling with a 5 year old. Please advise, Thanks.
yourmomma Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 you'd add a location that doesn't have any 4 star hotels when you rebid. For example, Coney Island (there are several others) doesn't have any 4*'s. If you add Coney to your list, you'll be able to bid again sooner than 24 hours.
thereuare Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 AJSkyz,BEFORE bidding again i'd suggest you ensure you have a better understanding of re-bidding and confirm your re-bid zones with the board, as the way you are currently bidding you risk an overbid in the zones you add later in the bidding cycle. At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. Please read the Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread (which i just updated the first post of the other day to make it easier to understand) and see if you can identify your SIX re-bid zones. If not, or if you're still confused, just post back and we'll break it down further for you. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AJSkyz Posted May 27, 2011 Author Report Posted May 27, 2011 Thank YOu, I've been doing the re-bidding correctly now but no luck.I did find a 3 1/2 star hotel on Hotwire for $194.00 in the Chelsea Madison Square Garden Area with fitness center, restaurant, business, and high speed internet. Any ideas on which hotel this is?thanks.
thereuare Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 The Chelsea property matches the Doubletree Chelsea, Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea and the Holiday Inn Sixth Avenue so any of these would be my best guess. I'd tend to favor the Doubletree as being the more likely of the three, but you should be prepared for any of these (or something else given how common the amenities are for NYC)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and/or would like to proceed and we'll take it from there.
