Priceline Hotel: NYC - 6/17-6/18 - first time

Hello - I am new to Priceline and this site. I am looking for a nice (probably 3.5+ stars) hotel in a touristy part of NYC. I am not exactly sure where to stay as I've never been to NYC, so suggestions would be helpful. How much do you think I should bid, and ultimately expect to pay? I am quite surprised at how much the rooms are going for on Hotels.com, so I'm looking to get quite a deal.

Any suggestions on which zones and how much I should bid would be helpful.

I'm going during that same time frame, though this isn't my first time.

Midtown might be best for you (as a tourist).

Yesterday I was doing some bidding (again, for the same dates) and I went as high as $100 (3.5*) w/o any hits. So I'd say you might want to try starting there. Based on the calendar of wins (link above) I was hoping to at least hit the 3.5 @ $86 that someone else got. No such luck.

I'm no expert, so you probably don't want to listen to me. :)

dochocin,

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages and clicking this PRICELINE link... then reply to this thread indicating your maximum budget as well as if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel (or if your goal is the least expensive 3.5* or better) and we'll have a look at your stay above. Also, is a hotel which is a 15 minute walk the subway acceptable? What about a very small room (~150sq ft)?

Thanks for your help. I would like to pay about $150 for the 3.5+ star room if possible, but I can probably go up to about $200. Obviously, I'd rather stay at the low end of that estimate. A 15 minute walk to the subway might be a bit much for us at this point. 10 minute walk is likely do-able. A very small room is not totally unacceptable, but I'd like a bit more space ( I'm aware that rooms in NYC are small).

I'd like to do as many of the touristy things as possible in our 2 days there, so I'd like to be as close to much of that stuff as possible.

I just found a 3.5 start hotel in Chelsea - Madison Square Garden area for $148 on hotwire. Is there any way to tell which hotel this is? Is this a good deal for this zone?

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread.

This property has not yet been reported to the board, but i highly suspect it's the Desmond Tutu Center... this property typically gets very good, but the rooms sizes/quality vary greatly, as well as it's a little bit far west (although certainly do-able... the nearest subway is 2 long avenues and 2 short blocks away)... and this area is becoming a 'happening' place in its own right.

So in sum i'd say yes it looks like a nice deal, although not the most ideal location (although certanly do-able).

If you're willing to compromise on location a bit more you could also consider the 4.5* Downtown property on HOTWIRE with Fitness and Internet icons for just $117/nite, which i suspect is the W Hotel Downtown.

Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help.

Thanks for the help again. While the price of the hotel you recommended is awesome, I think its a bit to far for my tastes. I was really hoping to get something closer to Times Square/Central Park for < $200/night. The Desmond Tutu property looks interesting, but I think I'll keep looking a bit.

Can you help ID the Midtown Central area hotel on Hotwire right now for $161? Ameneties are Fitness, Pool, Internet, and Restuarant.

... but your Newark stay is for a different set of dates so for that part of your trip you would start a NEW TOPIC.

Is this 3* rated?? If so, my guess would be the Holiday Inn Midtown 57th St.

For the 4* above the amenities are common, but the Sheraton New York has previously been seen with this amenity combination so that would be my best guess for that one. I'll also add that you're starting to get up in price where the savings of staying Downtown can be worthwhile... the subway is convenient enough and if returning to the hotel late at nite you can take a cab with some of the savings you'll see vs. staying directly in midtown.
