Got this deal over the past weekend:

3.5* Chicago Essex's Inn

$120 / night (before tax)

Originally I wanted the River North area. Tried for 3.5 stars hotel from $90 all the way to $120 at $5 increment, no success.

Lower it to 3 stars from $100 to $120 at $5 increment, no success.

Include Millennium-Loop-Grant Park area, 3 stars for $120, success at the first try.

I thought maybe it was due to taste of Chicago that made the bidding price so high.

But the event only starts 6/24. The first night shouldn't be this expensive.... I'm not very happy with this deal.... :)

I have a couple of questions about bidding on Priceline, and hopefully someone can give me some tips.

(1) If I didn't bid during the weekend (not bid for the weekend, but doing the bidding during the weekend), could that raise the price? Should I waited till weekday to do the bidding?

(2) In my case, if I chose to only bid for the first night to get the cheaper price (because taste of Chicago hasn't started yet), then after I got the deal, I chose to extend the stay with the same rate, will that work? I thought about doing so, but was afraid that Priceline wouldn't let me do this because of the taste of Chicago....

You may have been able to get a win/start a bit lower at the 3* level in the MP-Loop-GP area - waiting to bid on a weekday would not likely have had any effect vs weekend. In terms of extending the stay, there is no way to know for sure if the hotel would have allowed it - during most normal periods hotels do, but sometimes they do not.
