I looked at the calendar of past prices and bid the following so far:

4* Mayfair Soho - $90: rejected

4* Mayfair Soho - $110 rejected

5* Mayfair Soho - $165: rejected

I am hoping to get in Mafair Soho for around $150 a night. Is this going to be possible?

4* Mayfair Soho - $165: rejected

Does anybody know if it's worthwhile to try tacking on another day and lowering the bid, even if I am not going to stay for one of the nights? I'm thinking of trying 4 nights (instead of 3) at $90...

Expanded my area to Kensington - Earls Court and got one to go through. Here's my bidding history:

$105 - Rejected

$115 - Rejected

$125 - Rejected

$135 - Rejected

$145 - Accepted

I have the NH Kensington from 7/5/11 - 7/8/11

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your success!

While perhaps more then you originally wanted to spend, hope you're pleased with the end result.

To answer your question above, i've seen situations on HOTWIRE where a longer stay might result in a lower total price then a one nite shorter stay which included the same dates, but this is a very rare occurrence and usually only applicable for longer stays and lower priced hotels as it's then easier to 'make back' the cost for the extra nite you won't be using.

In case this is not clear, an example may help clarify:

14 nite stay at $50/nite... by adding another nite you only need to save ~$3 to make adding the extra nite worthwhile

3 nite stay at $150/nite... need to save about $40/nite to make adding an extra nite worthwhile
