LoneStar Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 OK, my 3 days were up and I bid $75 and got the Movenpick, which is in the West zone for the night of Aug. 5. Looking at the reviews, it looks reasonably well situated (adjacent to the tourist zone so that you'd probably have to take a short tram ride for sightseeing, but quite convenient to where locals shop and eat). The hotel also seems to be of 4-star quality. Seems like an excellent deal, and strikes me as good alternative to paying $55 more for the 5 star Marriott. Anytime I can get decent 4-star accomodations in a major European city for less than 100 bucks, I'm happy!FWIW, this hotel didn't show up in my "packages" search, so don't rely too much on that. :<) A couple months ago, I thought someone got this hotel for $70, but my $70 bid was rejected 3 days ago. I've also heard that the middle of July to the middle of August is somewhat off-peak in Prague, so that could affect availability. And, for thereuare, it's probably best to assign my posts a new topic. Thanks.

LoneStar Posted May 16, 2005 Author Report Posted May 16, 2005 Lonestar, glad you got it settled out... looks like you're losing a bit if faith in the packages feature? Yeah, it's a strategy that worked great until it stopped working. :) What I guess MIGHT happen is that hotels can decide not to participate in the semi-opaque "packages" section. Otherwise, why would Priceline not want to offer the Movenpick as an option?BTW, I don't recall seeing anyone EVER get the Hilton on an opaque bid, even though it's in the other zone from the Movenpick.Mysteries of priceline, I suppose. In any event, this property looks like a steal at this price if you're willing to give up "local color" to stay in one of these comfortable semi-homogenized int'l business hotels. At this price, I know I am!
