Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but I've been working on getting a hotel in Seattle WA (4 star, pike-place) for June 14-16 for a couple weeks now. I tried a bid of $95 today (which I have tried before), but I got a "try again now" page after losing the bid. Except, it was a totally different "try again now" page than I've ever seen. It said:

"We searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $95 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number ###-###-###-##. If you are willing to raise your price by $25 to $120 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now.

Normally you are required to change additional items (add zones, star level, or dates) in order to try your request again. However we are able to extend this one-time opportunity to you because of the zone, quality level and dates you requested. If you do not want to increase your price and would prefer to modify the other details of your request (zones, star level, dates) and try again, click here. "

Has anyone ever heard of this? If I raise my bid to $120 right now will I definitely win the bid? Is it possible that if I continue re-bidding normally (by adding zones) that I could get a price lower than $120?

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

This is what is often referred to on the board as a counter-offer and you will very likely receive a win if you bid $120... but you can also likely win something for less if you continue to bid using your re-bid zones. See this Priceline Suggests Price to Pay thread for more info.

If you need help with a specific bidding strategy (or to report your win) just continue this post and we'll then move the entire thread to the WASHINGTON >> Priceline section of the board.

Thanks for the advice. I went back in and rebid at $100. Interestingly, I got another counter-offer for $125 this time. Seems like $25 over was their magic number, which is silly, since I already know they were offering it to me at $120.

Anyway, I rebid again at $103, which was rejected. Then rebid again at $106, and got the Renaissance Seattle Hotel! Yay!

Thanks for the advice. The tips on this forum really taught me the best way to use priceline (this was my first booking!). I appreciate the help.
