okie2301 Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 Hello,My wife and I are going to be in NYC July 6-10 and are trying to find a place to stay. We don't really have a preference on what zones as long as the area is safe and has easy access to the subway. We would prefer a 3.5* or 4* but will do a 3* if we need to to stay in our budget. We would like to stay under $700 (preferably $650) taxes and all for the 4 nights if that is possible. Does that sound reasonable? Any zones we should avoid? My main concern is going down to the 3* level due to our budget and ending up with with a not so great hotel. I have bid a few times already (will use your PRICELINE link for future bids!) and have had no success. Past bids were up to $130 per night for 3.5* and 4* in TS, MTW, MTE, CPS, Downtown/SOHO, Empire State and Chelsea. Last, do you recommend ever splitting dates on bidding? Thank you for any help! thereuare Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! You can see this thread regarding SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BIDHowever, rates for your dates are not that high and i think you may be just shy of a win... just how high of a bid price are you willing to make at this point in time? Are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?I assume you're ok with a hotel which may be a 15 minute walk to the subway or a small hotel room (such as those at the Hudson Hotel)??Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- please follow-up your previous Hotwire Washington DC thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay. okie2301 Posted May 19, 2011 Author Report Posted May 19, 2011 I am okay with either a 4 star or a 3.5 star, the cheaper the better; 3* would depend on the area and the quality. Small rooms are not a problem at all but I would prefer closer access to the subway since we will be on/off quite a bit. 15 minutes would not be terrible, but would prefer closer. If that eliminates some zones for initial bidding that would be good to know. So if there are I would prefer to keep my initial bid under $135, although I was hoping to have a bid accepted at $125 or under. I would even be happy getting a 3* at a lower price if in a good area and convenient access. Any thoughts?
thereuare Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Please confirm, your previous bid(s) were at the 3.5* level and went up to $130... but you're actually willing to try up to $135 at this point in time?At the 3.5* level i would avoid MTE since you could land a hotel with a 15 minute walk to the subway. Also, keep in mind that while most Downtown zones will be near a subway, it's about 20 minutes to midtown... not terrible, and actually good if spending a lot of time Downtown and/or Greenwich Village, but also not ideal if you think you'll be spending most of your time in midtown and/or points north of Times Square. From your comments i'm assuming we'll leave MTE out of the bidding at the 3.5* level, leave CPS in since you're ok with a small room, but in addition to confirming your previous zones and bids, let us know if Downtown is still acceptable. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. okie2301 Posted May 19, 2011 Author Report Posted May 19, 2011 Yes, all previous bids were at the 3.5* level. Downtown is completey fine as we will be spending time in that area anyways. I am going to change my mind on CPS though for 3.5*. After reading reviews of the hotel I believe to have the small rooms, I would rather look other places first. Looking at the hotel list I think MTE could be okay (we could deal with the walk, it is NYC!!) but maybe we could save that for last in case nothing else works out. Tyler
thereuare Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 OK, so i think this is where we're at:3.5* in TS, MTW, DT, ESB, Chelsea with a $135 maximum bid...If this is rejected then try the same but include MTE.Assuming this is correct i would bid as follows:At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW, DT, ESB, Chelsea...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS, MTW, DT, ESB, Chelsea...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135If the above is rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add TS...Bid $105, if rejected add MTW...Bid $110, if rejected add DT...Bid $115, if rejected add ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add Chelsea...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $128, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. okie2301 Posted May 20, 2011 Author Report Posted May 20, 2011 Followed the bid plan and no success. Went ahead and started bidding on 3 star in Chelsea, MW, DT, TS, ESB, and MSG. No luck on bids up to $120 with 3*. Figured I would go ahead and try to bid CPS despite the change of small rooms and started bidding over. At $120, my bid was accepted for The Hudson in CPS. Glad I stayed under budget but hopefully the hotel is better than the reviews let on!! Good thing I am not claustrophobic because these rooms look tiny!! Glad to be in a same and familiar area though. Thanks again for all the help, this site is an amazing resource!!
AaronJB Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)This is a very good deal for the Hudson; the rooms are small, but I think this property seems like the W chain in that the trendy boutique style is understandably not going to be everyone's cup of tea and people are either going to love it or hate it. Either way, nice location.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
