mjdavila Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 Hi everyone!I'll be traveling with my wife to Paris for 3 nights this Sept - it'll be my first time to Europe.I've tried bidding a number of times (using the PRICELINE link of course).. Up to $125 for 4 star in different areas..But no success! Should I wait until July/August?It doesn't appear that there are any rebid zones for 4 stars in Paris at this time..Does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay? It's our first time so we'd like somewhere nice and central and easy to get to all the attractions.. I was looking mainly at Champs Elysees - Arc De Triomphe, but I guess also at Opera Quarter West - Jardin des Tuileries, Opera Quarter East - Les Halles & St. Germain - Latin Quarter - Montparnasse as secondaries... but honestly I haven't read enough to even know that those areas are good.Any expert advise would be great! thanks,MD

mjdavila Posted May 17, 2011 Author Report Posted May 17, 2011 I've tried the other zones as well... up to around 125/130 with no success. I think I'll probably just have to wait.. maybe it's too soon.
thereuare Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 It might be early, and rates are date specific, but last year around this time rates were often in the high-$100's/low-$200's.You can continue to try and consider your options if you're still unsuccessful as you get closer to your trip, but what is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know if we can be of further help along the way. 2TravelGuys Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 I just bid $156 + $4 bonus dollars for a total of $160 per day for a 4 star hotel in the Les Halles area. The dates I entered were for 5 nights, 22 Sept 11 to 27 Sept 11. The bid was not rejected, but instead told me to increase my bid by $40 a night to $200 to win the bid. A couple of years ago, the same thing happened in July in Paris, Priceline telling me to increase my bid from $125 to $150. I did and I go the Novotel Les Halles for $150 a night. It was worth it.I will probably try my current bid again at $170 and so on, but will not jump directly to $200 as I have plenty of time left.
Romelle Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 A couple years ago I included La Defense in my bidding and got a nice Pullman 4* at a very reasonable rate (reported and reviewed here). It is right by a metro line, and then a 15-20 minute ride to any of the attraction areas, or maybe a transfer but still not very long. Besides, the arch at the area is interesting in itself. No nightlife to speak of, but a McDonalds, a huge grocery store/department store complex, and some nice restaurants. More of an office building area.Check the map though before you commit. And if you include this area, start quite a bit lower to prevent overbidding. Romelle
