whyman79 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Hi, I just found your site and this seems like an awesome thing you've got going! I'm looking to stay in the French Quarter at a 4-star hotel from Nov. 16 - 22 (6 nights). The catch is that I need 2 rooms that will sleep 3 people in each of them (for a total of 6 people). I'm new to using Priceline and am not sure how the bedding arrangements work. If I were to book these rooms, how do I know they won't stick me with a king-size bed in each of these rooms instead of two queens or doubles. I for sure need 2 beds in each room instead of just one. Also, I'd obviously like to save as much money as possible with my hotel booking and am not sure what kind of budget I should have or what my low and high bids should be. I'm pretty sure this is a low tourism time for New Orleans but am not entirely sure. Any help with this stuff would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)
whyman79 Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Also, is it an okay idea to book for 2 adults in each room instead of 3 to save money? (or will that not help at all?)Thanks again.
AaronJB Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)PRICELINE reservations guarantee 1 bed/double occupancy. Three people are not likely to be an issue, but the hotel could certainly say no to more than one bed (whether due to availability, policy or both) or charge you more. They may say yes, but there have been plenty of instances of the opposite, and one has to be prepared with that risk if using PRICELINE. There is no guarantee of particular bed size (queen, king, etc), as well. With HOTWIRE, you are ensured of bedding for the amount of people indicated (more than 2 should be ensured of 2 beds or 1 + sofabed or other combination, but again, no guarantee of particular size.) HOTWIRE is generally slightly-to-moderately more expensive than PRICELINE, but it is less opaque. What would be your desired max budget per room/per night for this stay?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Also, is it an okay idea to book for 2 adults in each room instead of 3 to save money?Keep in mind that most of the buildings which house the French Quarter hotels are quite old, so rooms (even within the same hotel) will vary greatly in size. You may get a hotel which has a high percentage of rooms with only bed and/or won't know what type of room you will be assigned until check-in. When I was recently in New Orleans we were 2adults/2children and a rollaway was brought into the room, but i worked it out with the hotel beforehand to ensure the room would accommodate all of us, as i knew they had rooms which would not accommodate 2adults/2chidlren. Even though we were given a room to accommodate all of us, and my kids are still small (and very cute :) ), it was a bit tight. Lastly, if you search HOTWIRE for 2rooms/6adults there is a chance the hotel will assign 1room for double occupancy and 1 room for quad occupancy. Not sure if this would work for your needs or not, but if going the HOTWIRE route, i'd also check pricing for 2rooms/6adults/1child as this may not increase the price vs. a 2rooms/6adults/0children search, and would ensure triple occupancy for each room.Hopefully you followed the above, but if not feel free to ask any questions and/or clarification.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
