I would really appreciate some help using priceline to book NYC 4* hotel for 6th-13th Sept in the Times Square district.

I have no idea what price to even start with. I have tried to find relevant posts but am struggling.

September - which usually brings conventions and nicer weather - can be more expensive in NYC, and TS tends to be the most expensive area in general. What would be your desired budget per night, and is TS the only zone of interest?
