pgpg Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Hi. I'm planning on make a vacation trip to NYC on August 6th through August 14th (departing from Sao Paulo, Brazil).Since here in Brazil We don't have anything like Priceline, this is a really new world for me. But I got really excited about it and I have been reading a lot about prices, free re-bids areas and about NYC itself.I would like to achieve the better price possible (USD 150,00 per room per night, including taxes, maximum) on Central Park South, Midtown West or TS for 2 rooms in a 3.5 or 4 stars hotel. How should I bid it? Should I wait until late July or early August to bid? Should I split into weekends and week days? Am I expecting too much (in this case, too LOW )?Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Your maximum budget of $150 all-in translates to about a $125 bid price, which while not unheard for summer in NYC, may be a little optimistic for an eight nite stay, but certainly worth trying.Did you want to try for a 4* up to your limit before trying for a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Once you let us know regarding the star rating you want to try for first i'll have some further comments regarding your zone selection. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pgpg Posted May 13, 2011 Author Report Posted May 13, 2011 Well, my ultimate goal is the least expensive 3.5*, but since I'm almost three months early, I'll keep trying the 4* for a while. Do you think it's a good strategy?
thereuare Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 Well, my ultimate goal is the least expensive 3.5*, but since I'm almost three months early, I'll keep trying the 4* for a while. Do you think it's a good strategy?I think it's a contradiction...If you really wanted the least expensive 3.5* or better then you would be bidding for a 3.5* property... if you're hoping for a 4* within your budget but would settle for a 3.5*, then it makes sense to try for a 4* property until you get closer to your dates, at which point if still unsuccessful lower your star rating. But these are two different approaches depending upon what your goal for this stay is.Let us know your thoughts and/or how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pgpg Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 Let's go for the 3.5* since the beginning then! What should I do?
thereuare Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 Before bidding 3.5* in CPS note that this zone contains the Hudson Hotel which gets ok reviews except for the notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)... is this an acceptable outcome? Also, if bidding 3.5* is there a reason you're not including MTW, ESB and/or MSG in your bidding as these zones are also considered to be centrally located and typically work out well for the average user too. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pgpg Posted May 14, 2011 Author Report Posted May 14, 2011 OMG! Just read the reviews on Hudson Hotel and I really don't want to stay for a whole week on a tiny room!!! Thanks for pointing that out! So we can't bid for 3.5* in CPS.No major issues with MTW, ESB or MSG. I've never been to NYC and just thought it just wasn't that centrally located. We may include those as well.In sum:3.5 or better in 6-ESB, 9-MSG, 10-ME, 11-MW or 13-TS4* in 2-CPS
thereuare Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 In sum:3.5 or better in 6-ESB, 9-MSG, 10-ME, 11-MW or 13-TSYou didn't include MTE previously and you need to be aware that all the 'known' 4* hotels in this zone are centrally located and fine, but at the at the 3.5* level some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? If you're looking to bid 3.5* i would begin with the following zones:MTW, TS, ESB and MSGIf you're looking to bid 4* i would begin with the following zones:MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESBPlease confirm the star rating you want to try for first and the zones you're willing to accept, we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. pgpg Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 Let's go for 3.5* : MTW, TS, ESB and MSG, then!
thereuare Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW and TS...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* ESB and MSG...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* ESB and TS...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* MTW and MSG...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* MSG and TS...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* ESB and MTW...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 3.5* MTW, TS, ESB and MSG...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
