Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (NMA-River North) W Chicago Lakeshore

Need a nice 4* for 2 nights, check in June 10, check out June 12. My company is paying for a room at JW Marriott on the Loop on June 9, so I want to find something a little cheaper and preferrably on the Mag Mile for the other 2 days of the weekend. Any suggestions? Are there any 4*s on NMA that I absolutely should not want to get? Little hesitant to name my own price because of the uncertainty, but any decent 4* is around $260 for these dates if I go straight through a specific hotel.

Thanks.

We are wanting to try and get a 4* for around $120/nt if possible. Willing to spend up to $160 or so. If it was more than that, we'd probably just pick our hotel directly.

The only 4* (personally, as hotels can be love it/hate it depending on different people's tastes, understandably) that just really didn't sit very well with me in the NMA-River North area is the Sheraton, which is not a terrible property, but I thought it was a bland, convention-oriented property that would really be much more accurately at the 3.5* level. Rates are varied for these dates, but overall not terribly high for the Summer months. In terms of NMA-River North 4* only, I'd start at $95 and work higher by $5's.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Is there a certain hotel that I am likely to get with putting in low bids? Is it usually the lowest priced hotel on priceline that ends up being the one that is assigned?

By the way, each time I bid, do I have to come back to this forum and click on the PRICELINE link in order for you all to get referral credit, or will it know after the first time you all referred me? Thanks for all your all's help!

To expand on the above, at the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* NMA...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125

If the above is rejected (wait 24 hours and re-try (starting with our PRICELINE link please):

Select 4* NMA...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $160

Any questions feel free to ask.

I sugguest using Thereuare post#5 strategy but start at $115. We've been trying 3* and 3.5* star bids up to $100 for the past

two weeks with no luck. FYI-Blues Fest is that weekend. Good Luck.

Thanks a lot for all your all's advice. I've tried rebids starting at $110 all the way up to $155. Still no accepted offers. Trying to decide if I want to keep bidding. A few questions:

How much cheaper generally is the Millennium Park/Grant Loop area than NMA? Just wondering how much I could save by staying south of the river.

Does anyone have any experience staying on both sides of the river? What are the advantages/disadvantages of being north or south of the river?

Also, it looks like Franklin Park is a 4* rebid zone. However, when I add this area, the median price of a 4* hotel drops significantly. Should I not be using this as a rebid zone?

Thanks a lot guys! You all are the best!

Sometimes the Loop could be significantly less expensive... sometimes it can even be more expensive. I don't think there is much of a different for your dates above, but you can try if you'd like.

The Loop gets quiet at nite and less nightlife around. It's just a short cab ride to the NMA-River North area, so not terrible, but certainly less convenient.

You can use this as a re-bid zones (assuming when selecting Franklin Park by itself it continues to not show 4* or higher properties offered in this zone)... the action you're observing has been noticed before and it just has to do with the algorithm PRICELINE is using for the calculation.

I'll add that i don't think you're far from a win in the NMA-River North zone... another $5-$10 may be the different between success/failure.

Let us know how you'd like proceed and we'll take it from there.

Finally got a bid accepted. W Chicago Lakeshore in NMA area was accepted for $175.

Can't say I'm thrilled from the look of the pictures. Doesn't really look like a 4* hotel. Can't believe the $309 retail price for it.

Anyone have any experience here? Give me the good and the bad.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your success!

As your aware, these are busy dates, and this isn't the only hotel fetching $300+ rates for these dates, so you shouldn't be surprised by the retail rate. Fortunately, you got a nice PRICELINE deal and are savings $100+ per nite from this rate.

As far as the W Hotels go, they're boutique-y type properties run by starwood which have a young, cool, and 'scene' feel/vibe to them. AaronJB will be able to comment more on this particular location, but the one time i've stayed at a W i didn't expect to like it at all (as i thought it was too pretentious for my taste) but i was pleasantly surprised and actually had a great time. Two things to expect (one positive one negative)... drink prices will likely be sky high (that's the con)... but the bed may be one of the best you've ever slept on (that's the pro). The beds are so comfortable that they actually have a price list in the hotel so that you can buy one (and just like the drinks, they're priced accordingly!)

Enjoy your stay.

I think the W properties are not going to be everyone's cup-of-tea and that's really understandable. I think I found both properties neat from the standpoint of, in Chicago, many properties are very nice, but a number of them are all business and not a whole lot in the way of personality. The W's were really "something different" (especially the City Center location and its very dark look before they recently redid it), and while I think that there are definitely varying reviews regarding a number of aspects of both hotels, I actually thought that the service at both properties was very nice. I'd stay in either property again and I didn't expect to like the chain, but I liked both locations. I think I'd have to be a bit in the right mood for a stay at the W's, but I'd stay there again. I was pleasantly surprised by the W chain, but again, I'd fully understand that it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and that's seen in the reviews. Upgraded rooms at this property look out at the lake, but many rooms (you may want to request a higher floor) looking the other way have pretty good views of the city/surrounding area.

I do love (even if for browsing) the Fox and Obel Cafe and Market, which is a few minutes walk away on Illinois and McClurg.

There's the Westin Heavenly Bed and W Signature Bed, and I've found myself liking the W Beds a bit more.
