I am new to the site.

I have been bidding and rebidding the last few days for May 19 to May 23. 5* on the strip South or North. I have taken my bids as high as $180 with no success.

Questions:

1 - do prices tend to drop if wait until closer to the date of travel?

2 - why are prices so high for this weekend - it is the the weekend before Memorial Day?

3 - what price would anyone anticipate I need to be bidding to win a 5* on the strip?

Thanks

I'm a member, not a moderator, but wanted to mention something about Las Vegas bidding based on personal experience. It is always a good idea to check the hotel web sites for their rates. Many years ago I was bidding Las Vegas and had a successful bid. I later checked that hotel web site to see how well I'd done, and found I could actually have saved a few $$s if I'd gone directly.

Quite a few of the Las Vegas hotels have links via the "Las Vegas Checker" above. Others have links under the Support/Travel Links tab above. The rest make themselves really easy to find with obvious names like www.hotelnamex.com or a quick search.

For your specific dates you can see if others have posted results using the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins - center of page. You also then can click on a specific win and see more details of the post. Somebody might have scored a deal several months ago that just isn't available now.

For more general results, you can enter "las vegas" in the Quick Search box - top center. You can also narrow down these results by entering things like "las vegas strip" or even "las vegas strip north".

If you are willing to move, you might consider splitting your bid into two parts.

Rates are somewhat high due to seasonal factors (weather-wise its a very comfortable time in Vegas) and your dates include the weekend which can be 2x-3x midweek rates. As well, there is a 20K person convention from 5/18-5/20... while Vegas can easily handle this sized convention, it would still have a little impact on prices.

I'm guessing you're not too far from a win, perhaps $185-$210 would seem to likely be enough. What is your maximum bid for this stay?
