I want to book a hotel in london between 27-31/5 (not more then 80$ per night).

I have 4 q's:

1) if I start with 4* level and adding non-4* areas to raise my bid can I remove them when I go down with star level for 3* and then again to 2*?

2) I don't really care if the hotel would be 3* and even 2* and don't mind about specific area (I prefer camden but everything goes, as long it's around the cenre of london), so should my best strategy be just adding out areas?

3) Is priceline effective in busy dates like these (champion league final) when most places to stay are booked?

4) never tried hotwire, Are there some major differences?

BTW

got Manhattan centre hotel (which got changed by them to the jewell just across) in NY for 145$*3 nights between 31/3-3/4 through priceline (about 25% less then it's price at the time)

Yes, but to also answer your question above, you'll need to close the browser and re-access PRICELINE using a link on the board.
2) I don't really care if the hotel would be 3* and even 2* and don't mind about specific area (I prefer camden but everything goes, as long it's around the cenre of london), so should my best strategy be just adding out areas?
If you list the zone(s) you're willing to accept we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Would you be willing to pay more for a 3* vs. a 2* OR is your goal the least expensive 2* or better for this stay (you sound like you may be local to the area, but personally i'd be a bit cautious regarding hotels of lower rated hotels in Europe.
3) Is priceline effective in busy dates like these (champion league final) when most places to stay are booked?
If most hotels are sold-out and/or feel they can sell all their rooms at full price then there would be little reason for them to offer very deep discounts to the opaque suppliers.
4) never tried hotwire, Are there some major differences?
See this I've never used Priceline or Hotwire thread which explains the similarities, and differences, between each service.
