richelleh Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 I have been slowly going up in increments and am up to $189/night for 4 star Financial District for 9/21-9/25/11. I'm thinking of opening up to other areas, but wanted to be near Ferry Marketplace, Chinatown and easy transportation to Haight-Asbury.I know rooms are $300+ for that area during that timeframe, so maybe I'm deluding myself and should just bite the bullet with higher price.Just wanted to get a good priceline deal and when I see people getting rooms there right now for around $100, it just makes my price hard to swallow.Any suggestions?

richelleh Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks for responding. I wouldn't want the possibility of switching hotels since we're only staying 4 nights and then moving to Wine Country. As far as the Hotwire option in Nob Hill, I haven't looked at that area in detail yet, so I'll check out to see where they cover and check that out further. This is our first trip to SF and we want to be able to see the most we can, so we're trying to be in a central area.

Gallus50 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 September is a very popular time to travel to SF and there are lots of conventions. Booking early does not necessarily help if it is a busy time. If it looks like they will be full, hotels don't want to throw their inventory into a highly reduced price pool. There are basically two ways to go. Book a hotel you can cancel and keep bidding right up until the time. Or book the best you can and deal with a potentially higher rate. Some of this depends on your comfort level. LastMinuteTravel.com has the Harbor Court, which they call a 4* but is probably more of a 3+, for $168. If you're really itchy to book something , you could book that. Or you could keep looking at HW and bidding on PL. You have lots of time, so it's all up to how you feel. Let us know what happens, though.
richelleh Posted July 5, 2011 Author Report Posted July 5, 2011 Tried again yesterday and got Omni for $202.50 (My price $195 plus $7.50 priceline rewards) for 9/26-9/30. Interestingly enough, I had booked Omni through their website and it was $304 with AAA discount, so I saved over $100/night :)
