Hello all,

First timer to Vegas!! I can't wait. Would love the best 5* hotel available for the weekend 6/3-6/5. Located on the strip would be best. Not quite sure how this works to have the best opportunity to get the best 5* hotel for the best price. Would love to stay for $100/night, but I"m quite sure that's not possible on a weekend in Vegas. Not too picky on most ammenities, just want a nice 5* hotel at a great price.

Any insight on how this best works would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,

Fellow Michigander here!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

We'll suggest a strategy for whatever amount you'd like, but currently i'm guessing a 5* on the strip is going to cost you ~$145-$170 (probably closer to the higher end of that range)

Let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I would like maximum bid to be about $125. The only need I really have is 2 beds. Would also like to be in the middle of the strip. Nicest hotel for the price. I personally don't need any special amenities.

Thanks again!

The only need I really have is 2 beds.
Since neither PRICELINE nor HOTWIRE (in most instances) don't guarantee bed type, this could be an issue when using the opaque providers (especially in Las Vegas where many of the higher rated 5* hotels have begun to charge extra for rooms with two beds).

If you're not willing to accept the risk of one bed then PRICELINE may not be a good option for this stay. You could choose HOTWIRE and look for a hotel which shows the 'Bed Type' option which will enable you to guarantee a particular bed type for an additional fee.

Another option when using HOTWIRE is to search for quad occupancy (2adults/2children) which will ensure separate sleeping accommodations for two people, although note that the 'second bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway, etc brought into the room.

Would also like to be in the middle of the strip.
Your hotel can be anywhere within the shaded boundaries of the zone. If you look at the PRICELINE zones and their boundaries, are you willing to stay anywhere within the shaded boundary of the Strip North zone? What about the Strip South zone? (NOTE: if you decide to bid less then 5* the strip south zone contains the 4* Westin, which while in this zone, is located slightly off-strip... would this be an acceptable option).

If the zones are too large for your liking you may want to consider HOTWIRE, where you'll also have to be willing to accept a hotel anywhere within the zone boundaries, but at least you'll be able to take a guess as to the hotel you may likely receive (and therefore have an educated guess as to where within the Strip it will be located)

Nicest hotel for the price.
If you decide to more forward with PRICELINE (given the constraints mentioned above) did you want to try for a 5* hotel first, then if rejected try for a 4*... OR is your goal at this point the least expensive 4* or better for this stay? If the PRICELINE constraints are too great and HOTWIRE is a viable option for you, if you search HOTWIRE for your dates doesn't anything appear within your desired star rating, zone and budget?

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Well, you've given me lots to think about. First, I'm not sure if it's best to use price line or hotwire. I'll let you help me decide based on my needs. I'm going to rate my needs based on importance.

Most important:

1. Double beds/foldout couch

2. Very nice 4* or 5* hotel

3. Located on the strip. (Not sure which part is best). North, south, etc...

4. Price (Would love to spend less than $125/night)

I'm not too concerned about there being a casino in the hotel. As long as it's an easy walk to a nearby nice casino. Bottom line, just looking to get a great room located on the strip for a great price. I trust your recommendations. You've been super helpful so far. Really when you think about it, it's VEGAS. Anywhere is going to work. Just want the best for the least.

Thanks for all your help!

FadingPro,

There a few issues with this stay, but the main 'problem' is that your top priority, two beds in the room, can't be guaranteed without going over your desired budget... and even without assuring two beds your budget may be tough as well.

Your best two options, imo, is what i'm guessing to be the Vdara for $185/nite and this should guarantee two beds although the 'second bed' could be a pullout sofabed, etc... OR what i'm guessing to be the Venetian or the Palazzo for $180/nite (the second bed would almost definitely be a pullout sofabed). At each of these properties you'll also need to add another ~$20 for a Resort fee. So you can see how this can quickly exceed your $125 target.

Lowering to the 4* you're probably looking at something like Treasure Island for about $150 or so... plus add-in another $20 resort fee... still over your budget, but given the cost, you may want to spend the extra $30 on a 5* (depending upon your preference and just how flexible your budget is)... especially since this doesn't ensure/help your two bed requirement.

Lastly what looks like the Tropicana can be had for $133/nite for a room with two beds... it's gotten good reviews since the renovation, but i was in the property a few months ago and didn't think it was that impressive, and is a far cry from the 5* your originally sought... but it does have a pretty good location on the 'four corners'.

So there you have what i think is currently available and how each does/doesn't meet your criteria, what are your thoughts on the best option of the above?

If you were one to gamble (I am), I would bid 5* south strip on Priceline and look to win Vdara at a lower price than the likely Hotwire price. Vdara seems to be the most frequently won 5* on the south strip lately by far. There are no guarantees, but even if you get another hotel you can request a 2 bed room with a decent success rate. Or try to be very nice at check-in (tip?). But like I said, I like to gamble.
