theunknown Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Hello Expert,First of, thank you for creating this useful and lovely forum for everyone. My friend and I are planning to have a one day visit at NY city. We're planning to stay around the Times Square locations. This is our first time. Do you think 4 people can sleep in one room? And what is the best price for a decent hotel? 3 * + or 4 * are better. Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Using PRICELINE for four people in NYC is a definite risk, as given NYC's small (and in some cases tiny) rooms, there is a definite chance you may only get one bed. You can request two beds via the hotel, but the hotel can say no (and there is a definite risk of that) or may charge more. If you are willing to take the risk and can make it work for one night if you do wind up with one bed, then PRICELINE is an option worth considering.Otherwise, I would recommend HOTWIRE, where you can enter the amount of people in the party, which will ensure some sort of bedding for the entire party. However, that will be a more expensive (although still discounted) option. What would be your desired budget per night, and which zones (TS only?) would you be interested in staying in?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

theunknown Posted May 7, 2011 Author Report Posted May 7, 2011 Thanks Aaron for your response. Would up to 150$ per night is too little? Anywhere near TS that does not require driving or taxi from the hotel to TS would be nice. If for two bedrooms on HOTWIRE, will 250$ for two rooms would be too little?
thereuare Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Would up to 150$ per night is too little?Would this be bidding for two rooms... $150 per room? If so, i think you have a chance at a 3* or better near the top end of your range... a 4* may be possible as well; would you want to try for a 4* first up to your limit OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?Anywhere near TS that does not require driving or taxi from the hotel to TS would be nice.Would a short subway ride be acceptable? Also, taxis are relatively inexpensive in NYC, especially with 4 people which you appear to be, most trips will likely cost you under $5 per person (and if staying within midtown more likely ~$3/per person)If for two bedrooms on HOTWIRE, will 250$ for two rooms would be too little?Note that you're not getting a 2BR suite, but rather ONE ROOM which can accommodate quad occupancy (which is often 2 beds, but could also be 1bed plus a pullout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc) Not sure if this is what you're expecting for $250, but 'yes', you could get a 3* or better room for $250 or less for this nite.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. theunknown Posted May 9, 2011 Author Report Posted May 9, 2011 Would this be bidding for two rooms... $150 per room? If it can be less, that would be awesome Would a short subway ride be acceptable? Also, taxis are relatively inexpensive in NYC, especially with 4 people which you appear to be, most trips will likely cost you under $5 per person (and if staying within midtown more likely ~$3/per person)I'd prefer to have a walking distant. thereuare Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 This would get me to the total of 300$ for two rooms. If it can be less, that would be awesomeWhat we need to know is if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotels... in other words, if given the choice of a 4* for $150 or a 3* for $130 which wold be your preference? Is 15-20 minutes considered walking distance for you and your group? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. theunknown Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 I honestly don't know the difference between the 3 or 4 stars hotel and since we only need to sleep at night time before heading back out, but if it is only 20$ more, don't see it would be a problem. Would a 0.11 miles to Time Square with that price is too less? The Millennium Broadway Hotel - Times Square is 272 per night. Can we get a good price for this?
thereuare Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 ...if it is only 20$ more, don't see it would be a problem.Nobody knows for certain what the rate difference between each of the star ratings will be, but we need to know what you want to try for first.Would a 0.11 miles to Time Square with that price is too less?I'm not sure what you're trying to stay here. The Millennium Broadway Hotel - Times Square is 272 per night. Can we get a good price for this? You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE, you have to be able to accept any hotel in the zone at the star level (or higher) that you choose. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. theunknown Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 I probably made this more complicated than it should be. The bottom line is i am interested in a 3 or 3 1/2 stars hotel that can accomodate 4 people(prefer double beds) with a walking distance between .11 to .20 mile from the hotel to times square. Budget is 350$ with tax and fee included. Any tips?
thereuare Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 If you go to HOTWIRE and search for your date and 4adults there is a 3* hotel in the Times Square zone with:Smoke Free, Restaurant, Business, Hi-Speed InternetFor $279/nite ($339 all-in) which matches previous results for the Belvedere, which gets pretty good reviews... woudl this work well enough for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. theunknown Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks a lot for your time. I went ahead and booked the hotel with 2 double beds @ the Paramount for 382$. It's a 4 stars hotel and near where TS
