Hotwire Hotel: 4* DC (White House-Capitol Hill) The George Hotel

Hi,

this will be my first time to use hotwire or priceline. We have 2 adults and 2 kids. But the problem is one kid will be 18 by August. I wonder if there will be problem when check in - can I count my older one as child instead of adult?

We plan to stay for 5 nights, August 7 ~ Aug 11. This is a tour trip, I guess DC downtown should be our #1 choice. I am thinking 4* or 3.5*. Which zone should be my next if I need to add one? I wonder what's the average price range for that time frame?

I know it's still early, but I'd like to start my homework and get prepared.

Thanks.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, after that it's at the discretion of the hotel, and you could receive a room with only one bed. While you can call the hotel you win and request a room with two beds, the hotel may not be able, or willing, to honor your request. So if you're looking to only book one room PRICELINE would be a risk in this situation, regardless of whether your children are over/under 18 years of age.

If this isn't a risk you're willing to accept, HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy and ensure sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search (although this usually means two beds, the second 'bed' could be a sofabed, rollaway, etc). Technically your son would be considered an adult, but i also don't think you'll have any problems at check-in if he's just turned 18 (unless he looks like he's 25), but to be a bit safe i'd just have your two kids wonder around the hotel and/or sit in the lobby area while you check-in.

What is your expected budget (per nite before fees and taxes) for this trip? If you search hotwire for quad occupancy does anything appear within your desired budget?

my max budget will be $150 including tax. I would like to stay at 3.5* if no 4* available for the price range. I am willing to pay $100 for 3.5.

I am thinking I will go for hotwire - we do need 2 beds. When should I start to look? one month earlier before the trip? 1 week?

We like to stay at a palce not too far from all the atrractions. Which zone do you suggest?

I am thinking:

The White House - Capitol Hill area hotel

Dupont Circle - Embassy Row area hotel

thanks

I'd suggest starting to research availability at this point (both on HOTWIRE and regular rate comparisons) and decide from there whether to proceed. When you search on HOTWIRE, are there any listings in the core areas of DC that are of interest within your desired budget?

While not $150 all-in, how about the 4* HOTWIRE offer for $149/nite when searching for 2adults/2children in the White House zone with:

Boutique, Fitness, Business, Internet

Best guess for this property is the The Hotel George.

While a little more than your target budget, this property is well located, has a fantastic 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor rating, and gets great reviews. As well, it's a Kimpton property so there is an evening wine reception every evening too which is a nice way to start the evening or to return from a day out touring the city.

Would this work for your needs?

There is no way to know for sure whether or not rates will cool closer to the date/s of travel. There is a discussion of booking timing in the FAQ. Additionally, the other issue is that HOTWIRE listings can change at any time - there is only one listing per star rating per area for any set of dates. A listing may change and there's always the chance that a listing that's well-reviewed may be replaced with something not as well-reviewed or not having an amenity you are interested in, etc. Additionally, prices can also change at any time - if there is an event or traffic comes in for these dates higher than expected, prices can stay at these levels or go higher.

I'll also add that searching for quad occupancy limits your options vs. searching for double occupancy... so the 'wait and see' approach takes on a bit more risk when looking for a room for 4 vs. a room for 2.

From which direction would you be heading from?

Would this be before your Aug 7th arrival in DC or replace the first day or two or your arrival?

I know it's still early, but I'd like to start my homework and get prepared.
Are you willing to commit to a hotel for this trip at this time?
