katharry Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hi there, I am travelling to Hawaii in January 2012. We have our 2 children with us (17 & 11yrs). Am I able to bid on a room if there are 4 of us? Or will I need to book 2 rooms?Second question (at this stage :) ) am I best to wait before bidding as January is still 9 months away?many thanks for any help you can give.
thereuare Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Please follow-up your previous Priceline Paris thread with whatever you ended up doing for that trip... then reply to this thread and we'll have a look at and comment on your post above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. AaronJB Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 You can bid for PRICELINE with four people, but the issue is that you may wind up with only one bed, as PRICELINE reservations only guarantee one bed. Bedding requests can be made with the hotel, but the hotel may be willing to work with you, may not be, or may charge more. HOTWIRE is a better option, as you can indicate the amount of people in the party, which ensures bedding (2 beds, 1 + sofa or other combination) for the group. As for purchasing, you do have some time, but I would start researching availability and making initial low bids if you decide to still go the PRICELINE route.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 You can bid for PRICELINE with four people...To clarify this statement, it can be risky to use PRICELINE for more than double occupancy. All that is required is a room to accommodate double occupancy, and although a more common response is an additional charge/fee for an upgraded room, in extreme situations, a hotel could even deny you a room if quad occupancy would violate fire code (or hotel policy). If you choose to try to use PRICELINE for more then double occupancy you need to understand and accept the risks in doing so.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. katharry Posted May 7, 2011 Author Report Posted May 7, 2011 Thanks again, I think I will try HOTWIRE this time around. Using the board links of course :)
katharry Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi thereI have found the following Ka'anapali area hotel 4* on Hotwire. 21 Jan 2012 to 28 Jan 2012.We are a family of 4 (2 children). The rate quoted is $171Resort / Beach Front /Fitness Center/ Pool(s)/ Restaurant(s)/ Business Center / Laundry Facilities (self-service) / High-Speed Internet Access/ Golf Nearby/ Tennis Nearby/ Spa Services/ Children's Activity ProgramCan anyone help identify this property? Also with a family of 4 is this likely to have a kitchen or would it state 'kitchen' if it did? Is booking this early a good idea or not? Thanks so in advance for your help. I've been a little shocked at the cost of accomodation :)
thereuare Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Please keep all posts for this stay in the same thread. The property above matches both the Hyatt and the Sheraton so either of these would be my best guess for this one.You shouldn't expect a Kitchen from your hotel room unless the Kitchen/Kitchenette icon is showing. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. katharry Posted May 10, 2011 Author Report Posted May 10, 2011 Thank you very much. $174 a night seems a good deal for either property - yes? If you were me would you wait a little longer to be booking for January 2012 or is that kind of deal for a resot as good as I am going to get? I did check out the win calendar and it looks like the Sheraton was won over January 2011 for around the $205 mark..... which is what makes me think this would be a good deal?I used the HOTWIRE link again this morning and a couple more options have popped up! This one shows a kitchen which I would like so along with my questions above could you also advise what you think this might be? (Apologies for all the questions)Ka'anapali area condo 3 1/2*Dates 21 Jan - 27 Jan 2012 4 peopleShowing: Beach Front/ Studio/ Fully-equipped Kitchen/ Daily Housekeeping Property staff will clean and make up guestrooms each day. Air-Conditioning/Children's Activity Program/ Fitness Center/ Pool(s)/ Restaurant(s)/ 24-hour Front Desk/ Laundry Facilities (self-service)/High-Speed Internet Access/Tennis Nearby/Condo
thereuare Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 The condo property matches previous reports for the Aston Kaanapali Shores so that would be my best guess for this one.As far as the deal above goes, it's very difficult to say where prices will be 6+ months from now, but i will note that $171 would represent a very substantial discount to conventional rates... add in that you're quad occupancy and it's an even better deal. Thanks in advance for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your purchase.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. katharry Posted June 12, 2011 Author Report Posted June 12, 2011 Just popping back to let you know I ended up booking privately as we decided we really wanted a ocean view.I will be using HOTWIRE for my last 3 nights but probably won't book until about a month out. I will be back to use the links on this board. Thanks again for you help!
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 Thank you for closing the thread and for keeping us updated on what you decide for the final three nights.
katharry Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 Looking for Acc Oahu 27-30 Jan2012 I'm using the links from this board.I've chosen Waikiki Marina area 4* first bid at $75 was rejected. I added The Airport and went to $80 that was rejected also.I am bidding on 2 rooms as we are travelling with 2 children and want the extra space. This is the last three night of our 3 week holiday. We are in condos for the other 2 weeks so I would like to get a great deal on this leg :)
thereuare Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 You do have more re-bid zones then just the Airport zone... are you not able to determine the others (there are THREE in total, and Ko Olina is not one of them) or is $80 your maximum bid at this point in time.Is Waikiki Beach not acceptable? What about Waikiki Central? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. katharry Posted December 4, 2011 Author Report Posted December 4, 2011 Hi, No I didn't know there were other areas I could use to rebid. I'll have to look at that.No $80 isn't my top bid, we are staying the first week at The Ilikai condos so I just picked the same area.I am hoping to get 2 rooms for under $100 each - think I am being too optimistic?
thereuare Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 If you're not familiar with how to determine your re-bid zones see this thread. Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board. Are Waikiki Beach and/or Waikiki Cental options as well... or did you only want to bid the Marina?$100 isn't totally out of the question, but the $120 area is probably a bit more likely.Let us know regarding your re-bid zones and the zones you're willing to accept and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. katharry Posted December 5, 2011 Author Report Posted December 5, 2011 Thank you - always so helpful :)I liked the idea being in walking distance to the Alamoana Shopping centre, that is really the only reason I picked the Marina area. Seeing as it is the last 3 days of our trip i am open to suggestions on staying in another location. I've now bid up to $101 4* I'll keep increasing my bids up to the $120 mark and see how I go.Thanks again,
thereuare Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 Are Waikiki Beach, Waikiki City Central, and Waikiki Marina all acceptable? If so...When bidding 4* in Oahu you have THREE re-bid zones (NOTE: Ko Olina is not one of them). If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki City Central...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Marina...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Marina and Waikiki Beach...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Marina and Waikiki City Central...Bid $103, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $108, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Marina and Waikiki Beach and Waikiki City Central...Bid $113, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $118, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. katharry Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 Ok so yesterday I bid up to $120 on a 4* using the rebid zones (staying in the Marina Area) with no luck.Today I added 3.5* and bid up to $115. I got a message saying they had found a room for $116 and that I could rebid - which I did and then that was rejected? So I added the airport and increased to $117 and this was also rejected.Based on other wins at the 3.5* I think this is getting expensive??
thereuare Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 ...staying in the Marina Area... Based on other wins at the 3.5* I think this is getting expensive??There aren't that many hotels in this zone, so there aren't that many hotels available to accept your bid price. If you include the other zones you increase your chances as there are more hotels available to accept your bid (and competition can often bring about lower rates). If you do expand to other nearby zones are are still rejected, i would suspect that you're not too far off... probably within $10 or so of a win. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to move forward and we'll take it from there. katharry Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 I would be happy to add in another area but I don't know Hawaii at all. I picked the Marina as it is close to the Alamoana Shopping mall :) If someone can suggest another area I'll happily add it to my search. Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I would be happy to add in another area but I don't know Hawaii at all.I saw this previously and why i had suggested/asked if Waikiki Beach, Waikiki City Central, and Waikiki Marina acceptable? Also, i don't know for certain but i would think it very likely that there are busses/shuttles that go from Waikiki Beach/City to the Ala Moana Center (a quick google search leads me to believe it to be the case, but you should verify yourself, especially if you don't have a car). Look at the PRICELINE map and let us know your thoughts and we'll proceed accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. katharry Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 Hi Just letting you know I added the rebid zones and went up to $121 4* still no luck.I had also added the Beach region. I then added 3.5 stars (Marina & beach) and bid $116 and got The Alamoana Hotel.I could have booked on the hotel website for $119 so not a huge saving - but oh well at least my accomodation is now all booked. Thanks heaps for your help :)
thereuare Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Congratulations on your success! While not huge savings, glad to see this is near the original location you were seeking and that you're pleased with the hotel received.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
