Haui Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Hello.I`m new here.I want to stay with my girlfriend in NYC from 19.06.-24.06.2011. We choose the areas Central Park South, Midtown West (our favourites), Times Square, Madison Square Garden or Empire State Building. The hotel should have 3 1/2 or 4 Stars. I`ve got many questions and I hope you can help me:1. When could be the best time to bid?2. Would it be better to bid with Hotwire or Priceline?3. Which is the best area to stay (good view and nearby sights)?4. What tactic could be the best and where should I start bidding? So many questions, but I hope you can help me.Big thx! :)
thereuare Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Much of the answers above will be dependent upon your budget... what is your expected budget (per nite before taxes and fees) for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Haui Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 I just want to get the lowest price for a 3 1/2 or 4 Stars hotel. The cheapest price is the best :) I checked the prices and in my opinion 200$ per night is expensive.
thereuare Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 So is $200/nite your maximum budget OR is that too much and your maximum is less than this? If less, what is your maximum bid for a 3.5* or better hotel?Since it seems you'll be bidding less than 4* what are your thoughts of the following two scenarios (which will let us know which zones to include/exclude from your bidding):-a hotel which is 15 minute walk to the subway-a room with notoriously small rooms (ie- see the standard rooms at the Hudson Hotel)Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Haui Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 Yes, my maximum is 200$ per night, but I`m looking for a deal at 80-150$.-15 minute walk to the subway should be no problem.... (in which area is no metro station nearby?)-but the room is too small for me, i don`t need much space because it`s just a hotel room, but this is too small...I hope I answered all your questions right, so you can answer all my questions. If there is anything else you need, just tell me.My favourite deal is a 4* Hotel in Central Park South (or in Midtown West) with a deal between 80-150$.It`s not an important question, but do the hotels mostly have free or payed internet access in New York?THX 4 helping
thereuare Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 We'll try for whatever you'd like, but my guess is that a 4* hotel is likely going to cost you closer to your $200 budget whereas you might be able to get a 3.5* near $150... do you want to try for the higher rated 4* (up to $200??) or is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?In MTE there are some hotels (such as the Millennium UN) which is about a 15 minute walk to the closest subway.Let us know regarding star rating and maximum bid and we'll suggest recommended zones and a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Haui Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 A good 3 1/2* Hotel should be good enough. So i want the least expensive hotel. Maximum should be 150$.MTE was not on my list. I think it's too far outside from the sights.Thx
thereuare Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 So to confirm...A 3.5* or better hotel in the MTW, TS, MSG or ESB zones with a $150 maximum bid? Assuming i have it correct...At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* MTW and TS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG and ESB...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW and MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* TS and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MTW and TS and MSG and ESB...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Haui Posted May 6, 2011 Author Report Posted May 6, 2011 Could you also answer my numbers 1-3 of the First post? It could be nice because i think you Know new York and priceline much better. What do you mean with "add re-bid Zone"?
AaronJB Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 1. There is no way to know for sure if rates will fall or rise closer to your stay, but there is the risk of rates rising if traffic comes in higher than expectations. When your dates are set is the best time to start researching availability and making intial bids.2. HOTWIRE does not offer bidding - please read this thread: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire.3. Midtown East, Midtown West, Central Park South, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden and Chelsea are fine. I tend to not recommend Times Square, which is a crowded zone and often the msot expensive.4. Regarding re-bids: Please read this thread about Priceline Rebidding. Let us know if you need further clarification.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
