VAtravelers Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 We are searching for a 4* hotel for Thur Jun 16 - Sun Jun 19. Perhaps being overly optimistic, I tried a bid for $80 and was rejected. I've seen comments about expensive weekends, so that may complicate our strategy. I'd appreciate any advice! I did use the PRICELINE link.
VAtravelers Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 I rebid 4* adding the "free area" North, for $85, and was rejected. Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks!
thereuare Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 This has been a very difficult area of late... what is your maximum bid for this stay and the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
VAtravelers Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 Thanks for the reply. I think our "back-up" plan is to stay in a Bed and Breakfast, which looks like it would cost about $140 per night and would be located right over the edge of the Center area. The benefit of that is having the option of cancellation, breakfast included, having a separate living area. But, a hotel in the center would presumably have a better location. Ah, dilemma. Here is today's update.I tried 4* for 95 and was rejected. I added "North" area and bid $100 and was rejected. Ket me know if you have any advice - thanks!
thereuare Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I'd just continue to gradually increase towards the rate of your back-up.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and thanks for keeping us updated. VAtravelers Posted May 3, 2011 Author Report Posted May 3, 2011 Today I used the PRICELINE link and bid $110, then added "North" and bid $120 and was rejected both times. Pretty ugly!
thereuare Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Sorry to hear your latest attempt was turned down. Thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding and good luck with your next round of bidding. BacSi Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 What is your other option----booking direct? And where is it located? How far out?For a busy June weekend you could be at or north of $140 as far as a wining bid on a 4. It has been than kind of summer. If it were me I'd bid on a 3 star. I'd not expect to get anything South of $100 a night but I'd bid up to the max of my budget. The very very very few 3 star wins I have seen over the past 5-6 years have been well located quality hotels. I loved the one I stayed at.Bidding on a 3 IMO has a lot to do with my initial question to you. What is your other option and how much will you spend for it?
VAtravelers Posted May 28, 2011 Author Report Posted May 28, 2011 Well, I happened to try again tonight and got Movenpick on first $120 bid. Of course, I now wish I had bid less. But, there you go! I see people commenting that it's a little out of the center, but I think it will be closer than the bed and breakfast we were planning to use for the exact same price.
yellowdog Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 VAtravelersThank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) We hope you're satisfied with the outcome and will like the Moevenpick.Enjoy your stay.Yellowdog.
