ksa Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Hi, I am new to the board and I would like to figure out a strategy for bidding on 4-3 * hotels for June 9-13. Apparently the Tony awards are happening that weekend, so I don't know what the chances are of getting any sort of deal. I'd like to know what is a reasonable number to start bidding at/how to go about bidding. My maximum budget is $160 a night, but we are looking for the cheapest possible hotel, not really willing to pay more for 4*. My areas of preference (in this order) are CPS, Chelsea, UWS, MTE. I'd be willing to spend more to be in CPS or Chelsea. I will be sure to use the PRICELINE link when I bid. Thanks in advance for your help!
thereuare Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! How much more are you willing to pay t stay in the CPS vs. the other zones? (after CPS are you willing to pay more to stay in Chelsea vs. UWS vs. MTE OR after CPS is your goal the least expensive 3* or better of the other zones). Also, at less then 4 stars, your zones are a bit unconventional:UWS - goes pretty far north... are you willing to stay in the 90's/100's??CPS - has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards) woudl this be acceptable?MTE - some of the hotels go a bit far East and can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll take it from there. ksa Posted May 1, 2011 Author Report Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks for the great information. from what you've said, CPS: I don't mind having a small room, the Hudson hotel would be fine.UWS: I didn't really consider that 3* hotels would probably be that far north. Perhaps its better to restrict bidding in that area to 4*?MTE: I would not want to be more than a 7-10 minute walk from the subway if possible. Should I restrict bidding here to 4* as well?I'm willing to pay $40 more (though the max is still $160) to stay in CPS or Chelsea, and after that I'd prefer UWS farther south over MTE. I just don't want to stay near times square or all the way downtown. Thanks again!
thereuare Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 At current rates I don't think you're budget is going to be enough for a 4*, so chances are that you'll have to exclude the MTE and UWS from your bidding. So would you like to try bidding 3* for CPS and Chelsea up to $160... then if that is rejected include ESB, MSG and/or MTW to your bidding? (if these other zones are acceptable please confirm that MTW isn't too close to Times Square for your purpose)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 CPS and CHelseaAt the 3* level you only have ONE re-bid zones. ksa Posted May 2, 2011 Author Report Posted May 2, 2011 I tried your suggestions and was rejected every time.... what next?
AaronJB Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Unfortunately, at this point, it would appear that these dates will require a higher bid - likely in part due to the Tonys, but also likely due to late Spring tourist traffic. I'd proceed higher by $5's.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I would proceed as follows:Select 3* CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* Chelsea...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS and Chelsea...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB and CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and Chelsea...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB and Chelsea...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MSG and CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB and CPS and MSG and Chelsea...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. ksa Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 Went up to 160 in increments of 5 but i was rejected every time. i think i'm giving up for now. thanks for your help!!
thereuare Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 At the moment i think it's the Thursday nite that is holding up your acceptance... if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID i think you can be successful for 6/10-6/13 at bids less then you have already made (and at a 3.5*/4*). You could then try bidding separately for the nite of 6/9, either lowering your star rating or choosing different zone(s) for the solo nite. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
ksa Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 As I mentioned, I gave up and did not purchase on priceline

ksa Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 I believe that I stayed with friends and then booked one night at the Chelsea Pines Inn through their website.
