ILoveBerlin Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Hi,I am using your links for both PRICELINE and HOTWIRE. I have already a hotwire hotel purchase at the W Jersey City (will report in NJ thread) for part of my stay as the rates have been insane.I am now looking for a hotel May 10 - 12. Hotwire gives me the following option:USD132/nightthere is both a 4* in Brooklyn (which would be the Sheraton Brooklyn) and a 3,5*. The 3,5* has the following amenities:non-smokingcomplimentary breakfastfitnessbusinessinternetThe NU Brooklyn is listed as 3,5* with almost identical amenities, however, this is a boutique hotel not listing internet. Could I assume it's the same one? However, what I am worried about is the NU having a customer review rate of 95% (found it on other dates with the boutique icon) and this one still gathering. So it would probably be a new one? Chances are, I guess, that this is the Best Western Arena, then? I'd love the NU, but if uncertain, I suppose would rather go with the Sheraton or sth. else. Many thanks for helping out.Cheers from Germany
thereuare Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 While some hotels do use multiple amenity icons and/or change the icons used frequently, the NU Hotel is possible for this 3.5*, but i would put the odds at less then 50/50. As well, the user who reported the Comfort Inn didn't include any amenities, so there is no telling if this is that property or some other hotel not yet reported to the board.Have you already tried bidding in the Hoboken/Jersey City area for the second leg of your stay, or do you have need to stay in Brooklyn for these dates? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ILoveBerlin Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 Thanks for your insights. Both the 3,5* and the 4* Brooklyn Sheraton are off the list now (or got moer expensive). Am not bound to any area as long as we got to Manhattan fairly quickly and conveniently. I have bid on priceline both on Manhattan (pretty much all zones) and on Hoboken, but was never successful. I just thought the NU Brooklyn looked lovely and would have been a nice opportunity to exploe more of Brooklyn. Best deal for me would now be the 4* Hoboken for 141$. I assume this is the Sheraton Lincoln Harbour and I haven't heard too good things about this hear in the forum. Any guess about change in prices within the next days? Will price be likely to increase further or should I stick around and hope for another bargain? I'll also try my luck on PL again, of course using your links.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I have bid on priceline both on Manhattan (pretty much all zones) and on Hoboken, but was never successful. What star rating and how high have you bid for each?Best deal for me would now be the 4* Hoboken for 141$. I assume this is the Sheraton Lincoln Harbour and I haven't heard too good things about this hear in the forum. This property really hasn't been won recently but has begun to appear much more frequently since it was upgraded by HOTWIRE to the 4* level. It's not as nice as the other 4* hotels in the area and doesn't supply the same experience as the W Hoboken, Westin or Hyatt as it's a bit more isolated and your choices within immediate walking distance are 2 restaurants (Ruths Chris and Houlihans) and a small food court which serves the office complex during midweek. Also, your commute to Manhattan would be by bus and arrival at the Port Authority (or water taxi which is a great way to travel, but imo, prohibitively expensive). You could do worse... but there are certainly better choices as well.Any guess about change in prices within the next days? Will price be likely to increase further or should I stick around and hope for another bargain?Really no telling at the moment which way rates will go.Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. ILoveBerlin Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 I have bid on 4* both for Manhattan and Hoboken. For Manhattan, highest bids would have been around 160$, for Jersey 130$. The two Brooklyn hotels are still around. After your review of the Sheraton Lincoln Harbour, I think the Sheraton Brooklyn would be the more attractive choice in terms of convenience to Manhattan, immediate area, etc.? I REALLY like the Nu Hotel so am very tempted to try the 3,5* Hotwire. However, wouldn't like the Best Western - it's my boyfriend's bday and I am surprising him with "kidnapping" him to NY so hotel should be nicer than Best Western. I understand that Hotwire only ever shows one hotel per star rating and area, is that right? If so, are there any chances of the 3,5* hotel changing to show NU's boutique icon within the next days? Doesn't anybody here have super powers to help me make this 3,5* be the NU? :)Cheers from Germany
thereuare Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 The Sheraton Suites is less than a mile from the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel, so (without traffic) you're probably looking at only 15 minutes to midtown Manhattan, which is quicker than Brooklyn, but the area is unremarkable (although close enough to Hoboken if you're looking for an alternate to going in the city)What are the amenities associated with the HOTWIRE Brooklyn hotel? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ILoveBerlin Posted April 30, 2011 Author Report Posted April 30, 2011 Oh, ok, I had understood from previous posts that the way to Manhattan was longer with the Sheraton Lincoln Harbour. That's good to know, then, as back up. As posted previously, the 3,5* in Brooklyn shows the following amenities:non-smokingcomplimentary breakfastfitnessbusinessinternetIt's a "super savings" - first I thought this was comparing the hotel to that hotel's regular prices, but from the Hotwire page I understand that this is merely based on the prices for that area? So again, no conclusions could be drawn from that, right?
ILoveBerlin Posted April 30, 2011 Author Report Posted April 30, 2011 Ok, so I went for the 3,5* Brooklyn hotel and it was the Best Western Arena. 132$. So you can add the following amenities to the list:Smoke Free RoomsComplimentary BreakfastFitness CenterBusiness CenterHigh-Speed Internet AccessI don't quite see how this should be a 3,5* rating (google revealed 2-3* ratings for this property, HOTWIRE lists Best Western as 2-3* in its "how our ratings work"), but after checking the TripAdvisor reviews, this sounds quite nice. I would have still went with the Brooklyn Sheraton though that was at the same price, but that's ok. (I still complained, pointing out how big a fan of the site I usually am - maybe, there's some extra in it ...)Thanks for your support! I of course went via the HOTWIRE link.
thereuare Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Congratulations on your success! While not the ideal property for your needs, these were difficult (and expensive) dates, so glad to see you got this stay settled and overall are pleased with the results (and you get to try another neighborhood)Thank you for using the HOTWIRE links on the board and sharing your win, helping us update the Hotwire Hotel List with the amenity combination for this property.Enjoy your stay(s).
