bond316 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 I am trying to book 2 rooms at a 4* hotel in the Downtown-Soho-Financial District location for 5/14 - 5/15. I am also willing to stay at CPS, Chelsea, ESB, HK, ME, MW, TS. My budget is $450 total with trip cancellation, so the most I would go up to is $180 per night/per room.If this budget is not possible then I would like to try to get 1 room for a total of $180, so my max bid will be $150-155.Thanks!
thereuare Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 At current rates i don't think that your budget is going to be enough for a 4* but to give it a try, did you want to try for the Downtown zone only up to your limit OR is your goal the least expensive 4* in any of your acceptable zones?... so the most I would go up to is $180 per night/per room.If this budget is not possible then I would like to try to get 1 room for a total of $180, so my max bid will be $150-155.This doesn't make sense to me since if $180 isn't accepted you then want to try a lower bid maximum bid for $155... are you thinking that it would be the two rooms which would be causing your rejection? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bond316 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 What budget do you think will be fair? Goal is the least expensive 4* in any of your acceptable zones. My apologies, I meant $180 max after taxes and fees so a bid of up to $155. Lets just try and get one room. But please advise on what you think is a realistic budget.Thanks.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 It's possible that the best deal you may find will be the 4* MTE property offered on HOTWIRE... but i would try bidding on PRICELINE up to this amount (or whatever amount you decide to use as your maximum bid). The amenities of the HOTWIRE offer (Restaurant, Business, Fitness) are very common for a NYC hotel but may be the Kimberly Hotel which is 3.5* rated by PRICELINE, so if rejected at the 4* level you may want to consider lowering to 3.5*, but then we'll need to have a further discussion in regards to acceptable zones, as you may have some zones you want to include/exclude at the 3.5* level.Given the above, do you want to keep your maximum bid at $180 or raise your maximum bid from there? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. bond316 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 Okay that makes sense. Lets try for 4* with a $250 max budget so I guess around $220 max bid.
thereuare Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. bond316 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Report Posted April 29, 2011 I just started bidding and ended up going all the way up to $230 and pretty much exhausting all zones possible. I won the 4* Intercontinental The Barclay for $230 ($290.44 after taxes and fees). This also includes Travel Insurance, which I think is $5.Definitely not the best deal or property I have gotten in the past, I guess its just the time of the year...
thereuare Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 While perhaps not the best deal you've received, this is still a pretty nice savings vs. a conventionally booked room at this property on this nite... so certainly not a 'bad deal' in any sense. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
