In hindsight, this was not a good bid strategy bec I think a 2* hotel would have accepted a bid at $60 (or less as evidenced by other posts). I would have perhaps even started at $55 and increased bids at $1 then lower the stars.

I've stayed at Quality Hotel Downtown Montreal before in 2009 when I won a double twin for $55 : its in a good location and is convenient too as its opposite a supermarket which is a bonus for a budget traveler. It is also in a non-red light area, which is good for a budget hotel - and you can walk to most of the interesting parts of town from here (eg McGill and Place des Arts)
