Hi @all,

first of all....congrats for that great forum...read a lot in the last weeks....and found a lot of interesting information...thanks!

i would like to aks for your help for a bidding strategy for our trip to NYC in july 2011.

we would like a hotel in NY for July 6th - July 10th (4 nights).

we want to stay in manhattan, but we have not a preferred district there.

so i will close out coney island, queensborough, brooklyn and long island and also upper east & west side....but with all the others we are fine.

due to the fact, that our budget is limited, we would like to stay below 110$/night. we are looking for a 3,5* or up if it is possible.

i know, that this is really a sportive job :-), but i hope that during summer time the hotel rates are going down a bit and i also recognize, that hotels like sheraton tribeca (under 100$) and even loews regency (under 110$) are possible...so hopefully someone help us with a strategy! :-)

For sure, I will use the PRICELINE link of this site.

Thanks in advance

Sorry your thread was missed when first posted and thanks for bumping it...

To confirm you're willing to accept the following zones:

CPS, Chelsea, DT, ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MTW, and TS

Do note that at less then 4 stars the MTE zone has hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, and the CPS zone has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards)... would either/both of these outcomes be acceptable?

Please let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

thanks for your quick response.

your right the hudson at CPS is really a thorn in my side...so CPS would be the last option of 3,5*zones i would choose.

the fact that some hotels in MTE are a bit away from subways (by the way: which hotels might that be?) is not so good (especially cause we travel with a little kid), but i think we will handle that.

due to the fact, that we won't spend so much money, i think that DT has the best chance to get a deal, or?

waitin for a strategy....thanks a lot in advance

best regards

So do you want to exclude this from your bidding for now, bid up to your limit in the acceptable 3.5* zones, then if rejected consider adding this into the mix?
the fact that some hotels in MTE are a bit away from subways (by the way: which hotels might that be?)
The Millennium UN is the best example... a nice hotel with generally good reviews, but the location might not work/be ideal for some.
i think that DT has the best chance to get a deal
It may very well be that DT is the best deal, but better to include all acceptable zones, use a proper bidding strategy of gradually increasing your bids, and let PRICELINE award you the one which is cheapest, rather than make an assumption as to which would be cheapest on any given dates.

Let us know regard CPS and we'll take it from there.

yes....let's do it that way! thanks!

so better take MTE also out of the list....same like CPS above.

thanks!

thanks for an advise.

just want to let you know, that we decided to take a hotel in jersey city, because of the high hotel prices in manhattan.

so we get the westin in jersey city for 125$/night -> same travel dates for sure and for sure i took your PRICELINE link.

i think we can be happy with that result!

thanks for your help.

best regards

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you found something which meets your needs and budget. While you do lose a bit of the 'vibe' of staying in NYC, this is a very convenient alternative with PATH train just a few minute walk from this property as well as some restaurants, shops, supermarket, etc all within easy walking distance of this property.

Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.

Enjoy your stay.
