Priceline Hotel: 2.5* Tacoma (Olympia) Guest House Inn and Suites Tumwater

Just "Won" this hotel - and in 5 yrs of using Priceline, this is the first time I have to say I did NOT save any money. Would have been better off booking through the hotel directly. I've been kind of complacent when using Priceline lately, assuming I'll save $$ so just doing a little research, then going for Priceline. This time I did not. I'll def spend more time next time before using Priceline.

After being denied 3* in the Olympia area at $65 for 4/22/2011, 2.5* at $67, tried 2.5 star at $70. Won the Guesthouse Inn and Suites, Tumwater (near Olympia). We had our 10 yr old with us. Final Priceline cost - $88...price to book directly w/ hotel: $79 + tax = $87. - BUT, because we had our son, we were asked to pay $10 more for a second bed. This made the cost MORE than if we had booked this same room w/ the hotel - because the exact same room we paid $98 for ($88 Priceline + $10 to hotel) was $79 on the hotel's website. Front desk clerk gave us the reservation form to sign when we checked in and then a quick, "Ooops, I need to scratch out the cost here...you're not supposed to see that". I think I know why...

The hotel itself is very so-so. We're not picky really, it's fine, but $100 for it is too much. Breakfast is a plus, but it's on the lower end of hotel complimentary breakfast fare.

Sorry to see that you had to pay extra for your son. But some hotels are strict with this. And the PRICELINE rules are that you're only guaranteed a room for two adults and that could mean one bed only. But is agree with you, it's cheap to do this when they have rooms to spare.
