wcaamyg Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Hubby and I are only going to have one day and one night in Washington DC on the way through for business. I want to really be able to squeeze in seeing as much as possible. I also would like to stay in a really nice hotel for a decent price (it's also going to be our 10th anniversary and my husband's birthday). What zone would suit our needs best as far as having: easy access to the main attractions, safe area, nicest hotel for the money, restaurants nearby, metro nearby.I also don't mind going through Hotwire since I might be better able to guess which hotel I will actually get based on the forums here. Thanks.
AaronJB Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)First, Happy (early) Anniversary! What is the date of travel and what would be your desired star rating/budget?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
wcaamyg Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Thanks very much.We are only going to be able to stay one night, a Friday night, 5/20 and check out 5/21 and then it's off to Dulles airport. We have to stay in Fredericksburg, VA for several days before we can go to DC and then fly out.I am willing to pay up to $130 or so and want to get the highest star rating, best hotel for my money. Just wasn't sure which neighborhood would be best to try for our purposes. It's my understanding that it's cheaper on weekends in DC, correct?

I was talking to my husband and he is concerned about the safety of staying in DC. Have you been there before? Do you know if it is safe to stay in the area where the Dupont or Palomar are, or is it better to stay somewhere outside DC and metro in?Thanks!
wcaamyg Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Went ahead and booked with HOTWIRE. Thought it was going to be the Dupont or Palomar based on the Amenities, but we got Westin Washington City Center. We'll see how it goes. The price wasn't much of a discount compared to the Westin's site, I am a little disappointed.
thereuare Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Sorry to see you didn't receive one of the hotels you were hoping for. This is a new rating for the Westin City Center, thanks for sharing your results with the board and helping us update the Hotwire Hotel List. While not much of a savings, hope this will work well for your needs and you have a good trip and anniversary. (might want to email the hotel ahead of time to let them know it's a special occasion and if any upgrades are available or suggestions for the area)Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
