National "Do Not Call List"

The government has initiated a "Do Not Call List" which you can put your name on if you don't want to called by telemarketers.

Some organizations are exempt (non-profits, long distance companies, etc) as are those that you have done business with in the last 18 months, so it's not perfect, but i do think it should reduce the number of calls received drastically. Your phone number will stay on the Do Not Call List for 5 years.

You need to sign up and then click on a link in an email that they send you within 72 hours:

PS- it took me about 14 hours to receive the email in which i had to 'click to confirm' within 72 hours, so keep an eye out for it after you register
