srturner47 Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 I have been looking for a hotel in midtown Manhattan. I have bid up on Priceline alot, about $120 for 4* and $110 for 3*, on August 1 to August 6 without success.Hotwire has a 3 1/2 * in Midtown Central for $138 Listed with restaurant, fitness, and business center. Any idea what that could be? It is starting to look more tempting as time goes by.If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them. I also wonder if I wait if more hotels will show up on priceline or hotwire. Thanks for all your help!
thereuare Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding!NYC rates are still a bit high to where i think they should be for the summer months. I don't know the above hotel's identity, but i would try to be a little patient with this one. You eventually may need to go a bit higher than you're currently seeking, but i wouldn't jump on anything non-cancellable just yet unless i was sure it was a great deal. You should book something that is cancellable as a back-up while you continue to monitor other services. EasyClickTravel allows their reservations to be cancelled up to 72 hours before check-in date without penalty or you could also try QUICKBOOK (where the "pay when you stay" rates have no penalty and the "prepay" rates have a $10 penalty). If you're willing to stretch your budget a bit i've been recommending the Eastgate Tower for which the reviews are excellent. srturner47 Posted May 7, 2005 Author Report Posted May 7, 2005 Well, if I were going to spend more, Hotwire does have the Sheraton New York (Or at least what I really think is the Sheraton New York -- 4* Midtown Central, Customer Favorite, Restaurant, Fitness, Business) for $167. I would be very happy with that, but it is a little more than I wanted to spend...I have considered the Ramada Plaza and Inn New Yorker as a backup, Hotels.com has it for $133. But, they do have a $25 cancellation fee....Maybe I'll try a little higher on priceline...If I have anything at this point it is time, so I can rebid as many times as I want with short wait.Decisions...Decisions...I'll keep you updated if I decide to do anything. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted May 7, 2005 Report Posted May 7, 2005 Please keep in mind we are an affilate of Hotels.com as well as many other companies as shown on our SUPPORT PAGE.The thing about EasyClickTravel is that they don't charge any booking fee, so not only is it $10 cheaper than the HOTWIRE offer... but actually $16/nite or so cheaper... which is over $75 on a 5 nite stay. srturner47 Posted May 7, 2005 Author Report Posted May 7, 2005 Thanks for the quickbooks tip! I had never heard of them before. They have the Belvedere for $150 a night ($170 on the last night), which seems like a good deal and is cancelable. It got really good reviews on tripadvisor -- it is the 19th most popular there! :) I checked out Eastgate, but I wasn't as impressed with it as I was the Belvedere. The rooms look very big there, but me and my wife really don't need that much room, and the furnishings looked nicer in the pictures for the Belvedere.I think I am going to bid a little higher on priceline in 72 hours, and then talk it over with my wife. I will either get the Belvedere and then keep trying, or just splurge and get the Sheraton NY through Hotwire.I will be more than happy to use your links so that you can get a commision if I go with Hotwire or Quickbook. Thanks for all your help!
