mrschef Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Looking for ideas about how to have the best chance of getting the RiverPlace in Portland with Priceline? Ideas?
mrschef Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 Heading to Portland June, 2011. What will give us the best chance of getting the RiverPlace?
AaronJB Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. There is no way to increase the odds of getting a particular property when bidding on PRICELINE, or know if the property has inventory on the bidding side of the service for your dates - some hotels appear commonly, some appear rarely as wins, etc. With PRICELINE, you have to be willing to accept any possible property given the star rating/zone you select. With HOTWIRE, you can try to make an educated guess as to which properties are showing, but only one property shows in each area at each star rating for each set of dates and there is no guarantee whether the desired property will be showing for your dates. Are you only interested in Riverplace?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mrschef Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 Sorry for the double post. Thanks for cleaning it up. I was in two different areas and didn't realize they'd appear the way they did.No, RiverPlace isn't the only property I liked. It appealed to us because it's a waterfront property. Are there others I missed? Maybe it's not as big a deal as it would be at home in SoFla...
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Are there others I missed? If you check the Priceline Hotel List there are at least 10 hotels at the 4* level reported in the Portland (Downtown) zone... you can receive any hotel (even if it has not yet been reported to the board) at the star rating you choose. If you're trying to target a specific property HOTWIRE can be a better (although slightly more expensive) option. With HOTWIRE you can often take an educated guess as to what is being offered based upon the amenities associated with the property, but it's still a 'best guess' and no guarantees you will receive the hotel you're hoping for. As well, HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star level per zone, so there is a chance the hotel you're hoping for isn't the one which is offered for your particular dates.Feel free to ask any questions you may have let us know how you'd like to proceed... if PRICELINE let us know your maximum bid; if hot.twire let us know the amenities associated with the curernt HOTWIRE offer you're interested in.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... please click each of these links before replying.Thanks. mrschef Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 By "are there others I missed" I meant other waterfront properties. Nonetheless, all of the 4* look acceptable. I was just hoping to stack the deck for the RiverPlace. :)

mrschef Posted April 19, 2011 Author Report Posted April 19, 2011 YogiShe posted recent success with the following:Searched for 4* hotel downtown. Started at $75 (rejected), $80 (rejected), $85 accepted by Riverplace Hotel (4*). That would be acceptable to me.Thanks in advance for your advice,Linda
thereuare Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Rates are date specific so you won't always be able to replicate another winning bid price on the board. To give it a try with an $85 maximum bid you can try as follows:At the 4* level you have TEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. mrschef Posted April 21, 2011 Author Report Posted April 21, 2011 Followed your advice, made it to $88. No win. Do you advise trying again in a few days with the same amounts or do I need to start over at $90 and move up in increments from there? Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 What is your new maximum bid for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mrschef Posted April 22, 2011 Author Report Posted April 22, 2011 Well obviously, I'd like to get it for as little as possible. I want to stay under $100/night. I was just wondering if prices fluctuated so much that I could begin my re-bidding at some point below the last rejected bid or will I just be wasting my time unless I begin at that point?
thereuare Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 It's always recommended to 'backtrack' a bit to make sure that no lower priced inventory has been released since the last time your bid. For example, a revised bidding strategy to now go up to $100 would be as following, using your TEN re-bid zones:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $86, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mrschef Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Sheesh! With 10 re-bid zones, you'd think Portland 4* would be easy. This time I bid $60 - $70 - $75 - $80 - $83 - $85 -$88 - $90 - $93 - $95 - still no luck.
AaronJB Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Anything showing on HOTWIRE or Travelocity's "Top Secret" listings of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE, Travelocity or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mrschef Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Have to admit that I haven't. Have gone to both sites, but never come across the "Top Secret" listings of interest. Please clarify.
slruud Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 HOTWIRE has what appears to be the 3.5* Hotel Fifty for $83/nite. Maybe some of the professionals can verify. It's located along the waterfront park which overlooks the water. Tripadvisor reviews are excellent. We won it on PRICELINE for a early June trip for $77/nite and are excited to try something new/different downtown.
thereuare Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 ... never come across the "Top Secret" listings of interest. Please clarify.Click this Travelocity link and in the middle of the page you'll see a tab "MY DEALS"... look about 2 inches under that and you'll see a link to search for 'Top Secret Hotels' which is Travelocity's opaque product. If you have an interest in the 3.5* property slruud is referencing please post the amenities that HOTWIRE associates with this offer. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (or our Travelocity link if you go that route) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mrschef Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 I decided to try the 3.5* properties. Bid $60 in South Waterfront. Added downtown and bid again. Then bid 3.5* & 4* for $70. Got Hotel Fifty for $75.
