Thank you in advance; I learned about this site on flyertalk.com

Today I bid up to $150 for a 4* anywhere in Manhattan with no luck for June 24-26, 2005. I would like to spend $150 or less, and I will even consider Jersey City, which I think I can get a nice 3* on PL for about $84 or less. However, for a nice hotel in the city, I would consider paying up to $150. I would prefer a location with good transit options. Midtown is not a must, but I would like to be south of Central Park and north of downtown. Lower east side, village, soho, etc. would be cool. Funky boutiques are okay.

It seems that PL doesn't really have a "safe" 3* zone in NYC? What is your opinion? Ideas?

Thanks,

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I would go with THIS OFFER which is believed to be the Eastgate Tower where you'll get a Studio Suite for $157/nite (there is no booking fee so your net cost should actually only be $1 or so more per nite than an equivalent Priceline bid).

The hotel is about a 5 block walk to Grand Central which should fufill most of your mass transit needs and the reviews are excellent. Being a studio suite the rooms are much more spacious than typical NYC hotel rooms and there is a full kitchen.

Does that work for you?

I booked the Eastgate -- knowing it's refundable is great. If a great deal comes up on Priceline in the next couple of weeks, I can cancel.

I was faced with an interesting choice. For about the same price, I could have booked a smoking double-double with an SPG50 at the Four Points Chelsea, which sounds like a nice hotel with small rooms. Now, I have a king bed in a large room in a good location. I requested a non-smoker and a higher floor.

I look forward to the stay. Thank you for your advice.

Good Job!

The Eastgate should be much nicer than the Four Points.

It's about a 10-15 minute walk (or if you have an unlimited metrocard you can just hop on the bus up 3rd Avenue) but i always recommend users in this area visit Ess-A-Bagel (51st St and Thrid Ave) one morning for breakfast... inexpensive breakfast and one of the best bagels in NYC!

Two more area recos:

Jackson Hole Wyoming (35th and Thrid) for the best hamburger i've ever had

Rio Grande (36th and Third Ave, west side of the street)- if you like margaritas the frozen ones here will throw you for a loop... not cheap, but you won't need too many :)

OK, one more... if on a budget, Blockheads Burritos (34th and Third) has an earlybird (4pm-7pm): Margarita, Burrito, Dessert (rice pudding or flan) for ~$11.50 (if i recall correctly). Not the best burrito i've ever had, but certainly a great value for the price.
