ShelbyB Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 Hello everyone, I am a total newbie when it comes to Priceline so I was hoping to get some assistance here. I've been doing some reading but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to apply it to my situation. I only need a room for one night May 4th, 2011. I would like 3* or higher, although really I just don't want to stay in a dump or in a really bad neighborhood. I don't really care about where in the city it's located as long as I can get to the subway. Chelsea, MSG, and Downtown/SOHO/FinDistrict would be ideal but I'm flexible. I'd like to spend around $100. I tried bidding yesterday but I didn't have any luck. Any help would be hugely appreciated! I just need somewhere to sleep :)
thereuare Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current prices i think anything decent at $100 or under for these dates is going to be a tough call.. which zones and star rating did you try yesterday, and how high did you bid? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ShelbyB Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 By the end I had added all the zones except Brooklyn and Long Island City I believe. I went up to $115 and 3* and up. Am I just out of luck?
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 You need to be realistic... what is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ShelbyB Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 About $200. I was hoping since Priceline says you can usually save between 40-50%. I went up to $125 today. That was my absolute max so looks like it's Jersey for me!
thereuare Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 Unlike other good/services sold, when hotels rates (and margins) rise the amount of discount usually decreases... the higher rates are indicative of strong(er) demand, and with a finite number of rooms to sell, hotels may not discount as deeply since they'd rather try to maximize revenue by selling the rooms themselves (at full price). Remember, PRICELINE and HOTWIRE sell rooms which hotels otherwise think will remain vacation for a given nite, if demand is strong and a hotel thinks they can sell all/most of their rooms on their own, there is little reason to offer a deep discount. If you'd like help looking at other areas (such as NJ) just continue this thread thread and we'll move it to the NJ section of the board if/when a hotel is received. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
