Hello,

Looking for 3*+ in Manhattan for 11/10/11-11/13/11 for $180/night or lower for an event near Rockefeller center.

I have tried the following areas;

Central Park South, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden - Convention Area, Midtown East , Midtown West, Queensborough BridgeTimes Square - Theatre District, Upper East Side.

I have had no luck so far up to $170 (at which they started offering me the retail rates as a "special deal".

I do have some non-priceline and hotwire boutique hotels as backups in this range.

Not in any hurry, especially as the group rates for the event haven't been announced (although they are likely to be in the 4* 350+/night range.) Also, this gives me time to look for deals from travelzoo, bookit, etc.

Last time I used PRICELINE in Manhattan was mid-November 2008; I got the Manhattan broadway for $180/night.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Historically this is an expensive time in NYC, but with 7 months to go before your stay i wouldn't chase this one at the moment... reserve one of your back-ups (assuming it's fully refundable) and continue to try PRICELINE once every 7-10 days (any more frequently you'll likely just get frustrated)

If you need help with a specific bidding strategy feel free to ask.

Good advice! I am going to directbook a small boutique (2* or so) as a backup, and continue lowballing priceline.

Just as an update, Hotwire is showing me $165.62 per night for this time period "provided by Hotels.com"...3* MTE restaurant and computer. any ideas which one?

The MTE property is not opaque and if you click the CONTINUE button next to this listing the ensuing page will show you the name of the hotel, in this instance it's the Pod Hotel and the $165 rate is for a room with a shared bath.

What is the 2* boutique property you're booking and for how much?
