Fonnythefox Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Hi,We would like to book a hotel for the period of 6/01 - 6/05 in NYC, preferably in Midtown. Budget is MAX 150$.I was wondering what would happen if we split hotels, say 06/01-06/03 Downtown 3* (weekdays are more expensive)and 06/03-06/05 Midtown 4* ?Will it make a difference and can we sustain our budget? Can you advise us? plzTHX
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Which PRICELINE zones would be of interest?$150 (before taxes/fees) is worth trying, but may fall a bit short based on the rates that I'm seeing for these dates for a 4* in Midtown. 6/3-5 is moderately less expensive at a fair number of properties, although on HOTWIRE 6/1-3 and 6/3-5 are fairly similar. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Few things to cover:Before suggesting a strategy to follow, at the 3.5* level:MTE - some hotels can be 15 minute walk to the subway, is this acceptable?CPS - has the Hudson Hotel... bar-wise it's a 'scene' and trandy, but the rooms are notoriously small... would this be acceptable? If you opt to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, i do think you can get something Downtown for under $125/nite, which would leave you with a budget of $175 for the midweek nites in midtown, but even that may be tough for a 4*... and maybe even a 3.5*. Your original proposal might work too (weekends midtown and midweek downtown) but i think the reverse has a slightly better chance. However, i don't see anything on HOTWIRE where the average midweek and weekend rates average to $150, which makes splitting difficult, since you have to commit to one side of the purchase first... thereby leaving you 'exposed' for the second purchase if rates are higher then anticipated)Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fonnythefox Posted April 6, 2011 Author Report Posted April 6, 2011 Very interesting :-)I'm not really keen on the 15 minute walk, the small rooms are not really a problem (as long as the rooms are clean etc.)I've done some bidding for the midweek and went to 135$ for 3,5* Financial district - SoHo, still no result.I guess splitting is not really a GO! Or is bidding for the june period to early? Thanks for your help

Fonnythefox Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 I prefer to stay central in the weekend and downtown in the midweek!... but as you can see no results, so i guess today I will try the other way around.I'm even considering to change my citytrip plans into a 5-day roadtrip... W DC & Atlantic city... to keep it all payable. Returning in winter to NYC !
Fonnythefox Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 Just booked the Jewel for 119$!I am really pleased! Nice price, nice location!(Does anybody knows if the 20dollar trick works in this hotel?)
