yuribf Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Hey folks! What's up?! I'm going to NYC with my father-in-law, from 05/04 to 05/11 (7 nights). It's his first time in NYC, so I was thinking to stay close to the Theaters area, but if we can find somewhere in the center of Manhattan it's fine for us (upper east and west side it's fine too). We are not looking for fancy hotels, anything up from 3 stars fit our needs. Our budget is around U$ 150, top. I have one problem, at least: my father-in-law would not appreciate to change hotels at the middle of our stay. So, I can't split the period to raise my chances to get a good deal.Last night I bid at some areas, using the priceline's link above, without success (max. $150): CPS, CA, DSF, ESBA, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, UES and UWS.HELP!How can I get a really bargain at this periodo in NYC?Thank's! :)
AaronJB Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, Spring in NYC is a difficult period to secure a more reasonable rate, due to nicer weather. At what star rating did you bid up to $150?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
yuribf Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 I bid up to $150 at 3.5*. Do you think I can get a 3* at this budget? Thanks again!
thereuare Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Before bidding again...At 3.5* and under there are some zones you may wish to avoid (depending upon your needs for this stay)... would a 15 minute walk to the subway be acceptable? What about a hotel with notoriously small rooms?Let us know the above and we'll advise further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yuribf Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 A 15 minutes walk to the subway would not be a huge problem, so i'm bidding at MTE. A very small room at the Hudson it's not a good option for me now, therefore i'm not bidding at CPS (unfortunately, cause it's a nice place to stay). :)
thereuare Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 How firm is your budget? While you've been turned away for a 3.5* at $150 i think you have a chance at a 4* in the $170-$185 area.If your budget is firm, i'm not seeing too much variation in price between 3*, 3.5* and 4* hotels, so you certain have a chance at a 3* at $150, but it's certainly not a 'sure thing' even though it's not much less then i think you may be able to get a 4* hotel for.Whatever star level you decide to bid, i'd suggest sticking with the more central zones first up to your limit:CPS (ok at 4* but not 3.5* and under), DSF, ESBA, MSG, MTE, MTW, TSThen if rejected include the less central areas:CA, UES and UWSIf you decide to follow the above, you could move Downtown-Soho from the first group to the second group, but hotels are often so much cheaper Downtown, and your budget is tight for this stay, that i included it i the first group... but you could move to the second round of bidding if you so desire.Based upon the above let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. yuribf Posted April 15, 2011 Author Report Posted April 15, 2011 Hey guys! I got the Marriot Countyard New York Manhattan/Soho Hotel, for $ 125 (05/04 - 05/11). Now, I'm going to try to get a double double room. I'm satisfied with the hotel. It fits my needs and my budget! LOLThank's again for your help! :)
AaronJB Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Fantastic result for this newer Courtyard property. Getting two beds in NYC is difficult when using a discount service, but it doesn't hurt to ask.Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
