huskergirl Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 I was just reading another thread that gave advice on how to bid for a 4* in the Downtown/Convention center/Dupont circle areas. It was very helpful! I was wondering how much things change when you're trying to stay during the week? Additional Info: I'm not tied to the areas listed above, I'd be willing to try the Georgetown/Crystal city/Arlington zones as well. I'll have a car, but it sounds like using the Metro to get to DC is the best way to go. We have a few days to explore DC before we head to an event near College Park for the weekend. Thanks in advance!

thereuare Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Rates are high for these dates so your budget may limit your options and make the decision for you... what is your expected budget per nite for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. huskergirl Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 I'd like to stay under $200 a night if possible. I know I could get a budget room (Comfort Inn or the like) on the outskirts for around $100 or so. We have a hold on a Residence Inn near College Park for the 26-30 for $150+ tax, wanted something booked while I continue to research. Worst case scenario for the Monday-Wednesday we can stay at a cabin in Virginia for well under $100, but we'll have a 45 minute Metro ride into DC. (Long answer to your question, sorry. :) )

huskergirl Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 My goal is probably the least expensive. We could go down in star level too, if necessary.
thereuare Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 So to confirm, you want to begin by trying for a 4* hotel with a $200 maximum bid (we'll of course start much lower) in any of the following zones:DowntownConvention CenterDupont circleGeorgetownCrystal CityArlingtonDo note that as you go outside of the 'city center' the zones often become larger (geographically) and metro stations become more spread out. (although the trade-off is that a hotel on the outskirts of the city will likely cost less then in the 'city proper')Please confirm the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. huskergirl Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 Yep, that's what I'm wanting. Thanks!

huskergirl Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 Won 4* Georgetown/Foggy Bottom Renaissance Washington Dc Dupont Circle Hotel $110. Did as you suggested, tried Downtown, Convention Center, Dupont Circle for 100-110. Started over with Georgetown, Crystal City, Arlington. After my 100 bid I was offered an extra bid if I increased my offer to $125. I continued with the free rebid zones until the offer was accepted at $110.Read a few reviews quickly on trip advisor and checked out how long it will take to get to the Smithsonian Metro stop from the Foggy Bottom stop. (7 minutes--much nicer than some of the 30-45 minute commutes I was looking at.) Also checked the hotel website and found AAA rate was $332 per night. Got an offer to extend my stay there, so now I need to decide if I want to stay an extra night before we move to the Residence Inn Silver Springs to be closer to our weekend event. Thanks so much! I might try and get a better deal/hotel for our weekend near College Park now! :)
thereuare Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Congratulations on your success! An excellent deal and some big savings for this property... glad to see it worked out so well and that you're happy with the results.Do note that the offer to extend your stay isn't guaranteed to be available, so i wouldn't cancel any existing reservations until you're able to confirm the additional nite(s) if you try to do so.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy this leg of your trip.
