I may be fine, just too frugal. But, I have been bidding through your link for several days and so far no wins. The highest was $87 for 3 stars and $107 for 3 1/2 and 4 stars for downtown. Will probably broaden to Granville Entertainment District tonight. Or am I bidding too early? Using your link. I think since it will be cruise season starting, the prices are just much higher. I understand the free bid zones but some zones have non-rated hotels and I'm scared that they may be included in the zones that I need. Thanks for your input.

Welcome to Betterbidding. :)

You are definitely not too early for bidding for this time period. Rates unfortunately appear on the higher side for these dates and if this is a busy season, discounts may not be as aggressive. What would be your desired budget per night, and which zone/s would be acceptable?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

To confirm... are you using the technique outlined in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained to determine your re-bid zones? You DON'T want to use the hotel lists on the board to determine your re-bid zones. The 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones, at the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones, and at the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone. Are these consistent with the number of re-bid zones you're using at each star level... do you want to confirm your re-bid zones before proceeding?

I was afraid to bid on Surrey-Langley, N. Vancouver, and Burnaby (they do not show any 4 star) because they all have hotels that are unrated and I thought they might put one of those hotels that were unrated in the bidding process. Since I have plenty of time, I was not too concerned about the rebidding process and just wanted to be sure. I wouldn't mind 3-4 stars but didn't want to pay too much for 3 and didn't want to go over $110 for 4 star which I haven't tried as yet. Also on priceline, they do not include Granville Entertainment District on their main hotel page. I guess it is lumped with Downtown as far as showing # of hotels and their ratings. Thanks for the input everyone.

You're trying to use the retail side or PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones and this is NOT what you want to do... the 'retail' and 'bidding' side of PRICELINE each user a different universe of hotels, and as you point out, the zones are different as well.

If you read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained you'll see the proper way to determine your re-bid zones, if you read this thread and are confused just post back and we're break it down further for you... of you think you understand let us know if you're now more comfortable using re-bid zones.

I now see the "light". I was trying to use the retail side first to determine the ratings. Well, I have now tried x 4 for a 4 star up to $115 with no luck and x 2 for a 3 star up to $90 with a comeback for $25 more ($115) for a 3 star which I did not accept. I may try a 3 1/2 star later but it looks like it might be pricier than I had anticipated in Vancouver at that time. This will be on the tail end of a cruise ending in Seattle. We just wanted to visit Vancouver since we may never get up that way again. I will probably do the 3 star again tomorrow. Thanks for all of your help.

Glad to see you're up to speed on re-bidding :)

Good luck on your next round of bidding, if you'd like help with a specific bidding strategy let us know which star rating you'd like to try for and your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Also, note that the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, so when you had bid for 3* properties, PRICELINE also checked for 3.5* (and 4*) properties at that price as well.

I would appreciate any bidding strategy you care to help me with. I would prefer 4* and will go up to *$125 for downtown Vancouver 1st, or up to $100 for 3 star for downtown Vancouver. Next I would try Granville Entertainment District 4*, then 3* same prices. So I prefer downtown. Again, the date is 5-17 until 5-19.

Thanks.

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Downtown...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125

If the above is rejected, please clarify if you then want to drop to a 3* (as per your post above) OR if you want to try some bidding at the 3.5* level (which you didn't include as a star rating above, but seems like it would be the natural progression)

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much for your help. I was successful today!! I did try 4* up to $125, and even 3 1/2* up to $115 as many times as I could, but did finally, on my last try for $105 get a 3* Moda Hotel. After $100 bid, they offered me one at $125 but I declined and added another zone. I am very happy with it's location and it looks great.

I did use your PRICELINE link. Again, I appreciated your expertise.
