stephyalice Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 HiI'm looking for two hotel rooms (for two couples), 3 star, duing this period ideally not more than $140 per room/night, pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. I've tried bidding lots over the last few days but with no luck - can anyone give any advice on whether I should wait and keep trying or is my price unrealistic for this time? I'm considering dropping to 2* star but not sure if this is a good idea. Thanks!

AaronJB Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 It's generally not recommended to go below 3* in NYC (and especially below 2.5*), as the quality level at the 2* level can vary significantly, and while you may luck out and get one of the decent ones, there's a definite chance that you may not be so pleased with the hotel you wind up with. NYC in Spring is unfortunately one of the busier periods of the year, and often quite expensive. What bids have you made (in terms of top bid, star rating, zone) so far?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
stephyalice Posted April 13, 2011 Author Report Posted April 13, 2011 Thanks for your reply. The top bid I've tried was $150 at 3* and I've tried with all zones in the Manhattan area. I started around $120 and worked my way up adding a zone each time and increasing the price in increments. I tried that strategy over a couple of days but its hasn't worked yet.
thereuare Posted April 13, 2011 Report Posted April 13, 2011 For another $5, HOTWIRE has a 3.5* hotel in the Downtown zone with: Fitness, Business, Laundry, Internet with a 90% customer recommendation. This property matches both the Club Quarters World Trade and the World Hotel... would this HOTWIRE offer work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. stephyalice Posted April 14, 2011 Author Report Posted April 14, 2011 Yes I saw that but was really reluctant to pay that much - and now its gone. Bother, shouldn't have waited around!

stephyalice Posted June 13, 2011 Author Report Posted June 13, 2011 I ended up getting a Holiday Inn in the financial district for around $180. More than I wanted to pay but worked out well in the end.
