bulldog875 Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hello, this is my first post here. I've been playing around with the priceline Name Your Own Price thing for a little bit without much luck. I'm wondering if someone can give me some advice. We're staying in NYC from May 1st to May 7th. (6 nights)We're looking to stay around the Times Square area as a 1st choice, Midtown West as a 2nd choice and Central Park South as a 3rd choice.I'd like to stick with a 3.5* to a 4* hotel if possible. I'd consider a 3* but don't really want to get stuck in a Holiday Inn if I can avoid it. (But maybe that's only CPS??)I'd like to stay around the $150 area if possible. I've seen a few winning bids on priceline for 4* recently in those areas.Any advice? (I tried up to $170 for TS with no luck.)Thanks,Brandon

bulldog875 Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Hello,I've clicked your link for PRICELINE (opened it in a different browser just to make sure you'll get credit.) I'm also using some links of yours that I found for our city passes.I think I may have used up all my bids until about 8PM tonight for TS, MTW and CPS. (I made several rebids yesterday and it finally started denying me.)Let me know if you have any advice. Thanks,Brandon
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 Good morning. :)Have you also tried up to $170 for CPS/MTW? TS appears pricey for these dates, but the surrounding areas (ESB/MTE/CPS/MTW) are more reasonable in comparison.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
bulldog875 Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 I can't remember exactly what I did in the other areas but 170 was only for TS.I think I went to 160 on MTW and CPS and still didn't get anything. Is there a particular day of the week that you've found to be better for bidding? Thanks,Brandon
thereuare Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 There is no 'trick' in regards to day of the week, time of day, beginning/end of the month you place your bid... it all ultimately comes down to supply/demand and how actual demand (ie- reservations) come in relative to expected demand.Unfortunately rates for these dates are high, but not consistently high throughout your stay... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Have you bid the 3.5* level yet or only 4*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bulldog875 Posted April 12, 2011 Author Report Posted April 12, 2011 I'd rather not split my bids.I was bidding 3.5* last night also.I was just able to start bidding again. $180 for TS didn't cut it.I tried up to $155 on 3.5* for MTW, CPS and TS with no luck.
bulldog875 Posted April 12, 2011 Author Report Posted April 12, 2011 There's a Midtown Central hotel on hotwire that is 3.5 stars for $170 a night, so my bid doesn't seem that far off??
thereuare Posted April 12, 2011 Report Posted April 12, 2011 Few possibilities why your bids haven't been accepted yet with the HOTWIRE hotel at $170...you don't know that the 3.5* HOTWIRE hotel is rated 3.5* by PRICELINE (it could be a 3* hotel on PRICELINE)the HOTWIRE hotel offered may not participate with PRICELINE's Name Your Own Price ServicePRICELINE is usually, but not always, cheaper then HOTWIRE... but even still, you haven't bid as high as the HOTWIRE rate yetPlease remember to start your bidding, searches and purchases with the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how we can be of further help with this stay.
