Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 My parents and I will be in chicago during June 12-15, staying for three nights (June 12, 13, 14).I've heard that there is a conference during June 4-8, but I don't know how this conference will impact the price during our stay, although it should end at that time.Near downtown area and at least 3 star are preferred, plus no more than $100.Can anyone provide some suggestions? Thanks!

Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Posted April 10, 2011 Are you searching for more then one room OR for one room with triple occupancy? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.I think ONE room is enough. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 The only issue with PRICELINE is that it only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy; you can make a request with the hotel after you purchase for two beds, but the hotel could be unwilling or unable to grant the request. With HOTWIRE, you can indicate the amount of people in the party, which will guarantee some form of bedding for the whole party. The only issue is that HOTWIRE is more expensive than PRICELINE (although still a discount service.) There doesn't appear to be a convention during these dates, but unfortunately these dates are pricey due to the Summer traffic - given the rates I'm seeing for these dates, staying under $100 looks as if it may be very difficult (and may not prove possible.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 10, 2011 Author Report Posted April 10, 2011 1 king bed or 2 double bed does not bother much, I can bring a sleeping bag or air bed with me. So, I still want to bid via Priceline rather than Hotwire. I've tried from 4 stars down to 3 stars, and uder $100 still sounds impossible. It is much more difficult than bidding in Seattle. So, should I keep bidding, or wait for the last few days? I am worried that waiting for the last minute might be a risk.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 So, should I keep bidding, or wait for the last few days? I am worried that waiting for the last minute might be a risk.Nobody can say if rates will come down... or continue even higher, in the weeks to come between now and your stay. What is known, is that at the moment, $100 is not enough (and may not be that close either). What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable property thru conventional booking channels for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 If you have tried from 4* to 3*, as noted above, what have you already bid up to? I'm not sure what's going on on these dates, but a couple of the HOTWIRE listings that I saw last night are higher early (about 5:30) this morning. When searching for 3 people on HOTWIRE (in other words, trying to get two beds), prices are generally around the $175-200+ mark. Regular rates are definitely high, with a number of downtown 4*'s over $300 (and some well over $300.)I think you're likely looking at $150-165 +/- for a 4* if bidding on PRICELINE, and possibly $120-135 +/- for a 3.5* (which, keep in mind may be - if they even have discount inventory available during these busy dates - either of the Club Quarters properties or the "sister" properties in the same location (the River and Central Loop Hotels, which have small rooms.) Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 16, 2011 Author Report Posted April 16, 2011 So far, 3 Star hotel in Loop or NMA rejected at $120. What should I do?
AaronJB Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 Unfortunately, rates are quite high on these dates and look a bit higher since last I looked. If bids are not getting accepted at the 3* level for $120, unfortunately, you choices are either waiting and hoping that rates come down (which they may not) or bidding higher.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 I am now thinking whether the rooms in Chicago's hotels are as small or even smaller as NYC's?
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Update. Today I've tried 4* and 3.5* up to $165 but rejected. What on earth is Chicago doing at these days? This price is even higher than NYC.
AaronJB Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Rates are high for these dates, and HOTWIRE doesn't have much discounted inventory - a number of the listings are regular rate for these dates. There's a 40,000 person convention for these dates, which is definitely high + Summer traffic.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Shouldn't the convention be June 4-8?
AaronJB Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Unfortunately, the only options are to wait it out and hope that prices come down closer to the date, or slowly continue bidding higher. What appears to be the Tremont is showing for $150 for 6/12-15 on HOTWIRE. That is an older, basic property that's a 3* on HOTWIRE and a 2.5* on PRICELINE; it does not get great reviews and rooms are on the smaller side for Chicago due to the age of the property. However, it is superbly located. That would not be an optimal option, but would be something to consider as an option if nothing else works out.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Finally. $150 accepted by Chicago Essex Inn. Is it good?
AaronJB Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Certainly a nice deal for this property - which I believe was recently renovated and is showing at $250 regular rate.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
Twinkle.Lyphard Posted April 24, 2011 Author Report Posted April 24, 2011 Thank you for your info. I gave a phone call and was told that it is 2 double beds. The only thing I've left is about Jersey City. I will keep updating on other threads.
AaronJB Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 Glad to hear that you were able to confirm a room with 2 beds; I didn't think it would be an issue with this property.
