mbichan Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Hi,I'm looking at a hotel in NYC:Midtown East for 06/16/11-06/19/11. It looks like this time period is pretty expensive in New York. I have tried the following bids so far:4* NYC (MTE) - $140 - rejectedadded (Madison Square Garden) - $145 - rejectedadded (Upper East Side) - $150 - rejectedadded (Brooklyn) - $155 - rejectedadded (Coney Island) - $160 - rejectedadded (Long Island City) - $165 - rejectedadded (Queensborough Bridge) - $170 - rejectedI would like to stay in MTE but I am willing to go down to 3*. Does anyone have an idea how much I can expect to pay for 3* in this zone? Also, I noticed when browsing hotel websites that 06/16/11 is very expensive, but 06/17/11-06/19/11 is less expensive. Does it make sense to split up my trip like this to get a 4* at a cheaper price for the last two days of my three-day trip?I used the PRICELINE link for these searches and bids.
thereuare Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 Note that once you drop below 4* in this zone there are 'known' hotels which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... this this acceptable? Is MTE the only zone you're willing to accept? If so, can i ask what your plans are for this trip? Since the NYC midtown zones are so close together and mass transit/taxis so readily available, there aren't too many scenarios i can think of where this wold be the only acceptable zone unless their plans were very specific.I do see you benefiting by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and including other nearby zones... but you'll have to be willing to change hotels mid-stay and note that based upon current rates the Saturday nite will still cost you plenty. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. mbichan Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 I have some friends staying at the Grand Hyatt so I'd like to be close to there, if possible. I'll keep posting as I make more bids for this stay.

mbichan Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Ok, I went down to 3.5* and did some more bids:3.5* NYC (MTE) - $120 - rejectedadded (Coney Island) - $125 - rejectedadded (Long Island City) - $130 - rejectedadded (Queensborough Bridge) - $135 - rejectedadded (Upper East Side) - $140 - rejectedI'll keep trying.
mbichan Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 3* hotel NYC (MTE) - $100 - rejectedadded (Coney Island) - $110 - rejected
thereuare Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 While rates can change between now and your stay, at the moment, i don't think your current bid amounts are realistic for these dates... especially when only bidding one zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck on your next round of bidding.
